Extras of what? Of maemo.org? Is there a maemo.org "proper", then?
My perspective is the opposite. I think Extras is less confusing than the alternatives suggested so far.

Keeping commercial closed source applications in a separate repository would be a good thing. It should not be considered demeaning. Users browsing that repository will be looking for high quality apps and will be ready to spend some money on them. Open source applications, regardless or if they are commercial or not, would live happily on a repository having the word "Community" in its name. (Commercial Open Source apps are generally not sold on a per-seat basis. Some may charge for extra functionality available as closed source plug-ins or services, etc.)

I like v13's comment regarding "having a prefix (or suffix) that identifies uniquely the repository". We could have repositories like the following:
  • "Maemo Community Software"
  • "Maemo Commercial Software"
  • "Ovi Commercial Applications"
  • "Ovi Community Applications"
  • etc

Maemo Extra Apps...?

Maemo EX-Apps?

Maemo eX-Applications?

A middleground could be reached and a BIG sticky could be put saying "FYI MAEMO EXTRAS IS NOW NAMED "XYZ""

It has been established before that the license has nothing to do with application quality, especially now that the Open Source oriented Extras actually has more stringent QA procedures than Ovi. So please, no ghettoization of Extras.

In this forum, everyone knows what Maemo means, but the average mass-market N900 purchaser won't have a clue. Maemo, Fremantle, maemo.org, OS2008, Qt, it's just gobbledy-gook to them.

My wife wouldn't have a clue what Symbian is, even though it's been inside her last two phones. But she would understand "Community Applications".
I like the idea of the word "Community" as part of the name. "Community Apps" is probably best, to use the current "Apps" meme, and I don't think it's a problem that it has has games, wallpaper etc.

You are probably right that many people wouldn't initially know what Maemo or maemo.org is, but instead of that being a reason against put it in the name, I think it is a reason for putting it in the name, as it will have the benefit of being a small advert. maemo.org has the benefit of being obviously a domain name, so some people who see "maemo.org Community Apps" might type in maemo.org in the web browser to find out more.

Shall I add a poll to this thread for people to vote for their preferred name? And if so, does anyone know if it's possible to add additional poll options after the poll has started, in case I miss one out?
