Who would have thought a user named God would cause this much dissension, while one named Devil has been fairly benign?

Methinks we exceeded the irony threshold today. No, I have no scientific basis for that.

I had an argument with this kid (user name God). He is just stu pid kid who do not know what to say when arguing. except that my English is bad (while making spelling mistakes) and that he knows 4 languages. Is not it childish to act like that? It is just disrespectful to the whole memo community.

Gods control through fear. Nice creatures don't go around drowning almost every since man, woman, and child on an entire planet.

I'm not interested in getting into a debate about this. I hope that it will suffice to say that that is NOT what I believe and that is NOT how it works for me personally, and I am far from being alone in this.

Guys, guys, don't let's get into a religious debate. There is much fundamentalism on both sides, and it's an argument no-one will win (Says the person doing a MSc in transpersonal psychology).

I do want to take some responsibility for this mess though. I didn't realise that the user was so unstable when I engaged him in debate - trying to make him see that his perception of this place as unwelcoming and having a bad attitude was more to do with his own stuff and posting style than the forum. If I was part of what wound him up to java-pitch, I'm sorry. I won't do it again. I really do know better than to feed the trolls. (it had been a trying day...)

Sorry

I once tried to flush a goat down my toilet when drunk.

Could someone please get God back here?

I need to make a confession.

You don't make confessions to god.... you make confessions to child molesters.

See that's exactly my point. (Not to pick on you specifically Jay, you're cool)

Your comment doesn't actually debate anything. It doesn't engage with the question. You simply state your belief as fact and walk away (and yes, it is a belief every bit as someone else's belief in God is a belief - neither is provable under current circumstances).

Essentially, people do not want to look for ways of investigating whether there is any evidence for the things espoused by religions - they either accept it (and are called fundamentlaists) or deny it (and some of us call those people fundamentalists, too). In tiny corners of universities around the world, under-funded projects actually are checking for evidence, (and getting some very weird results) but the wider community just shouts them down.

That's why debate in a forum like this is pointless. People have already made up their mind. They don't want to debate, they want to say "I'm right, you're wrong. Goodbye".

hence I suggested we drop the subject.
