I found the easiest solution was just to move any private content into the tmp folder. The tmp folder is not indexed by the media applications.

For video, access is through the file manager.

For images, go into image viewer, select filter by folder - custom folder, and then any folder on the device is accessible.

Cheers,
Phono

hmm.. would there be a chance that the tmp folder gets cleared out by the n900 by certain apps on occasion? I havent tested, but I figure its called tmp for a reason =D

The easiest solution is to put the files you want hidden from media player and from the photos is by putting or moving them into the cities folder.. =)

raddg has a point. it is called tmp for a reason. Which serves short of temporary. This is the same way I did in hiding videos in my N97 before and it still works in N900.

Please note that there is a great tool in extras-devel that provides a graphical user interface that allows you to configure which directories are indexed and which not. For me this is the easiest way to do this.

The tool is called tracker-cfg

I have had stuff in the tmp folder for many months now and it has never been cleared out.

come on, storing images in tmp or cities folder is lame. Just edit the tracker.cfg file to select which dirs should be indexed -- you don't even need root access for that.
