I don't encode things for my N900 with really high resolution...I let handbrake have some latitude by using the "optimal for source" setting.

I started witch "Basic/Classic" setting. Here's the XML from the presets file of the profile I use (it's not perfect, but it works for me and my needs):

Code:

Thank you for trying. But I have ripped the same wombles ep about a dozen times so far and still completely failed to obtain anything playable. I had already tried switching to mpeg.

I guess my bead is just too stuffed with sawdust to achieve this. I'm obviously missing something very straightforward. The trouble is that most of the information on the main screen means absolutely nothing to me.

Yes, I have. I tried that after about the first half a dozen failures. Should I uninstall it?

Perhaps someone could supply a nice easy set of screencaps of exactly how I should have the settings done, pretty please. Either that or I could just give up and go back to bed.

If there's a simple install I can do to rip dvds, I'd be dead grateful: I'm picky about using things I haven't paid for legally but would like to rip my dvd collection to n900.
Not sure if anyone else has mention it yet but a good site for information is Doom9 Network lots of information on various things to do with transcoding and ripping too.

DVDshrink dounds... dodgy. Should I be even googling for it? I would it land me in hell?
DVDShrink I believe is no longer maintained but works extremely well especially for creating backups or extrating specific content from an original source DVD for backup. As usual the legality or otherwise of this tehnology depends on the local regualtions and judicial position.

I'm going to have a look at doing this for the Wiki sometime next week. If anyone has played with settings for encoding on a 'Vanilla' N900 would they care to post please or PM me please so I can get things online in the Wiki ASAP.

I use dvd shrink with no problems . The only reason dvd shrink is not maintained anymore is because nero paid alot of money for the person who run it to come and work for them .
