I'll let you know when that happens, however I'm fairly certain that if I ever run someone over, I will be too busy making sure I hit the person dead on. As such, I'll most likely not be using my phone at that time.

as for you being able to fly and do all sorts of clever multitasking (I'm so envious of your clear superiority to me), last time I was flying, didnt see many kids running about or or their bikes...
Obviously, examples elude you. And where are the parents of these kids on their bikes who are freely roaming on the roads, where cars belong, again?

I have nothing more to say to your ignorant comment.

It's difficult to respond to your post because you assume too much about me and sarcastically go off on tangents that get far afield of my philosophies. I'm allergic to straw men.

Suffice to say I covered what I meant to cover in that one post, which does not support your extrapolations.

Perhaps, but how would you define "responsible"?

Furthermore, being responsible and taking responsibility for your actions are two different things.

FYI a good book that explains the philosophical and anatomical differences is Americans are from Mars, Europeans are from Venus.

This whole thread was started in a hope that people that live in communities where texting and talking while driving is still legal would take the moral initiative and avoid doing it anyways.

I was involved in accidents where the other driver was typing on her Blackberry and swirled into my lane.

Now see? You know you're backed into a corner with your weak argument, and now you start with the whole "get a life pal" insults.

So let me get this straight before I go find myself a life:

Taking responsibility is not doing it in the first place? Ok... So let's say that I'm driving a loaded pick-up truck down the road, and one of the straps than an employee tied the load down with, comes loose. A piece of furniture falls off the back of the truck, and strikes a car. I shouldn't take responsibility because I'm not the one who tied the load down?

How does that fit into your argument, since I didn't tie the load down? Being the type that take the responsibility of the outcome of his actions, I'm going to stop and exchange insurance info, no matter that I or my employee were at fault.

If we were to follow your "Taking responsibility is not doing it in the first place", then I should have never moved.

Go re-think your weak argument. I'm off in search of a life at my local Mercedes dealer.

I was wondering how long it would take the argument to reach an absurd extreme.

Cant' say I'm 100% with That One Guy... but I am of not the same mind of Texrat on this.

I don't like the laws against Texting while Driving... ignoring all the personal responsibility for a minute - we have a very finite number of officers trying to enforce and ever-growing, more granular and, in my opinion, idiotic list of rules of regulations.

We can't keep convicted murderers, rapists and thieves behind bars and we're here debating texting while driving?

I will fight the officer that pulls me over for texting while driving (not saying I do, people) tooth and nail because it simply cannot be proven without pulling my phone records... and they can't do that without a court order and a whole a**-load of paperwork. I doubt any officer is going to want to go through all that just to try and say he was sure he saw me looking down at my legs while I happen to be driving.

I think unenforceable laws are a waste of paper, space, and time. Do I think people should text while drive? No. Do I think it should be a law and people getting pulled over for it? No. Hitting a child and killing them is against the law already.. if it happens - "But I was texting!" is no excuse for murder in any country that I'm aware. Unless it can be concretely proven that it was the kids fault - your backside is in jail. Lets be honest tho.. kids are stupid - and even following ALL the rules and going 15 in a neighborhood some silly kid will kick his ball right in front of your car and bolt for it.

Sometimes (most times, if you're driving defensively and paying attention) you have time to stop.. other times you do not.

So, since the cop can't pull you over for texting while driving - because it can't be easily *proved* you were texting while driving - then the only time this law will ever take place, is after you've already done something to warrant attention from the police. At that point.. what is yet another misdemeanor added on to manslaughter *really* going to add?? Is it your peace of mind we're trying to engrave here?

Then why don't we take the gun control method here as well then?? People die from cars... lets ban cars, or in this case: all cell phones. You can't tell me getting off their a** and taking a walk every once in a while is going to kill about 95% of this country (USA).

(anyone who knows me knows I'm against gun control.. but I use relatively the same logic to apply to most laws: Less laws, more personal responsibility. People are too quick to want a scape goat in this country, and it works because everyone else then goes after the scape goat.. it's not the phones fault that kid got hit - it's the drivers (usually, although sometimes you're just going to have to accept, sometimes it could be *your* kid). Let's try to remember that.)
