After you insert a SIM, the N900 sets up GPRS using the MCC and MNC values from your network to look up preset values in the file /etc/operator_settings. At least, that's what it looks like.

Unfortunately the values in that file are wrong for some SIMS.

For me, it produced the wrong values for both Vodafone UK PAYG (it chose access point "Internet" which doesn't work), and for GiffGaff (which it wrongly gave O2 settings that don't work on GiffGaff.)

A big problem is that MCC and MNC values are not sufficient to identify which GPRS settings will work, so the concept of this file on the N900 is flawed.

For Vodafone UK PAYG, use these settings:

Access point: pp.vodafone.co.uk
Username: web
Password: web

There is no need for a proxy, although in theory a good proxy choice might make browsing better, or worse.

For Vodafone UK Contract, some people have reported success using access point "pp.internet" and the same username and password as above. There may be some confusion between phone contracts and data cards (contract or PAYG), though.

Isn't it possible to read the right setting from the SIM itself?

Does anyone know of a tool for displaying SIM contents?

Hi again.

Okay. Try with *pp.vodafone.co.uk* as APN and *web* as login/pass without typing anything in the advanced settings.

*EDIT* I replied from a window that wasnt refreshed so I didnt realize jjx already had written that

I don't know if APN's are case sensitive but if you havent tried that yet, try typing in *internet* (instead of *Internet*) as apn and web as login/pass

Anyone else who currently have the N900 working on the internet on the Vodafone UK network ?

/Dennis

OK, I got it fixed.

Basically I have a biz account and the Internet had not been activated!!!!

So to confirm, Internet with login web/password web works and it's pretty fast on 3G tbh.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Hi everybody,

I have the same problem, but I live in Germany,
Got the n900 from amazon, went to vodafone and got the internet flat rate.
But when i try to connect to DF DE Web, I always get the message "Internet connection failed"
I can see that its a common problem and that some of you have managed to actually get it working. Does anybody has the proper configuaration for Berlin, Germany?

Vodafone customer service says that "they dont support the phone"

Can anyone help me here?

Thanks!

Weird.

I just noticed my vodafone internet service is not working!

I think it must have stopped on Monday at some point but now my n900 seems to log-in but any attempt to view a site gives me a blank screen.

I get quite a strong 3.5G (Edinburgh) signal. The connection has been fine since I bought the n900 way back in December 2009 and until recently enjoyed my mobile internet.

I have tried the suggestions in this thread but nothing seems to work.
I'm stilling using the original firmware with the n900 and have not upgraded yet.

My battery level has dropped to 1/2 since full charge at 8am this morning - this is unsual. It is normally almost full at the end of the day.

Has anyone recently had vodafone connection issues.

P.S. The only thing that has changed is that I installed QT4 (4.7) & QT4 bindings for Pythonon Monday. Surely this is not the problem??

Just tested for you from Glasgow - my Voda connection fired up fine when I selected it (only 2G insde the house ...) and dispayed a web page ok. I'm on PR 1.1 (I assume you mean that, rather than that you are still on the 'real' original f/w?). Suggest a strategic reboot may be a good 1st step?

Contract Internet

APN: Internet
Username: web
Password: web

This is our default Contract customer APN for general internet use, and should be the default for any non-Vodafone or Live! related service (such as Google Maps, for an example).

What it’s used for: Go through this portal if you want to browse the web, connect to or send email from your mobile's built-in email inbox.

What it’s not used for: You cannot connect to Vodafone Live! via this APN (use 'Contract WAP', below)

Contract WAP

APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Username: wap
Password: wap

This is our default Contract customer APN for Vodafone Live! and Live! based services.

What it’s used for: Go through this portal if you want to browse Vodafone Live!, or make use of any Vodafone Live! services, such as Mobile TV.

What it’s not used for: You cannot access or send email from device-based email clients (such as Outlook Mobile, or a generic Messages inbox), nor will non-Vodafone internet-based applications work via this APN. For this please use the 'Contract Internet' APN

PAYT Internet

APN: pp.vodafone.co.uk
Username: web
Password: web

This is our default PAYT customer APN for general internet use, and should be the default for any non-Vodafone or Live! related service (such as Google Maps, for an example).

What it’s used for: Go through this portal if you want to browse the web, connect to or send email from your mobile's built-in email inbox.

What it’s not used for: You cannot connect to Vodafone Live! via this APN (use PAYT WAP, below)

PAYT WAP

APN: pp.vodafone.co.uk
Username: wap
Password: wap
you do not need extra/advance settings just the above.

I recommend the one below because it does not direct you to mobile wap sites and works like normal internet.

APN: Internet
Username: web
Password: web

I ended up installing the WML plugin for MicroB as found in the Diablo Extras repo. Gives some bare functionality and no adverts. You need the WAPAPN to get access to vodafone live
