i have done that and it did not make any difference on pop3 server. naturally you would assume leave messages on the server would have nothing to do with deletion of message but simply downloading of messages.

What i noticed though, when i deselect leave messages on server option and delete an email. i started to see updating info bar.

also modest do not disconnect from mail box until you close it down and i usually get mailbox locked warning on the pc if i want to access my mail via pc. don't know what is the default bevevior should be but i would assume it would disconnect from mails server as soon as it updates because it is pop3 and you don;t need to be connected

Just verified that deletes do not propagate to the server at least on a Yahoo account.

Looks like this bug for POP3

https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2922

And equivalent on IMAP

Thanks for checking Mikec. It's reassuring to know I'm not going totally bats (no more than usual),

Not quite. If you deselect the option then ALL message when downloaded are removed. If the use case described as per S60 is implimented then messages are left on the server for collection by another client as well but those messages selectively marked for deletion are also deleted at disconnection on the server, the remaining messages remain for collection by another client.

This would follow my post regarding the UPDATE phase of POP3 conversations. It would seem that Modest does not move to the UPDATE phase of the dialog when it has run a synchronisation cycle and therefore the chance to let the server run marked deletions never occurs as I suspect the server merely runs a time out on the conversation.

I'm noticing this on the current firmware too, netstat -atu shows that it's constantly ESTABLISHED to all my pop3 mailservers all the time I am connected via 3g/wlan. Fairly annoying.
