Correct. If your python is optified, /opt/pymaemo would exist. I would advise NOT following part 2 of the first post, but rather doing:

sudo gainroot
apt-get install pymaemo-optify
apt-get clean

My script in post #10 of this thread has been updated to recognize the python optification and not report python packages as not optified, if pymaemo has been installed.

Doing this freed up an extra 8% in my rootfs. Cheers!

Hey guys, when I run either:

sudo gainroot
apt-get install pymaemo-optify

or

sudo gainroot
apt-get remove python

I get the following error:

E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable

E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
So I cant clean python at all. I only had FM Radio app install, which I uninstalled now.

Thanks a bunch mece!! Looks like I'm about five minutes late to the simple python reinstall party though. No biggy.

This got me thinking. Once QT gets optified will this same technique need to be used in order so that it wont break compatibility with current applications (Games from OVI Store, etc.)?

No, that shouldn't be a problem. The optifying is done in a way that is invisible to the applications. No python programs stopped working when python was optified afaik.

ok, i need help...

i followed the instructions here:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Free_up_rootfs_space

Installed rootsh, opened X-terminal and typed:
sudo gainroot
apt-get install pymaemo-optify
apt-get clean

Then i wanted to check free rootfs by typing df -h and i get this:

What does it mean? Do i have enough free space? Before i had rootfs full from 75%...
And how can i get it back to normal before optifying python with rootsh (having the usual look when typing df -h)?
