aright.

seems that my jurassic laptop wasnt recognizing the USB device, ergo, no flashing firmware.

did it on vista and was done within 5 minutes.

phones working fine now, flashed it with the latest firmware PR1.1

tested wifi = working
calls = working
music = working
movies = working

*OH HELL, its like i didnt lose anything.

all my files from the previous firmware was not lost, and its on the phone itself, not on a memory stick. i didnt do back up too.

all i lost is the panoramic desktop setting at the application programs.

aright, time to personalize.

Make sure you run flasher-3.6 -F etc without the phone connected via USB. You will get a prompt "no suitable device found, waiting.." at this stage, plug in via USB.
Ok jaxx, but you didnt flash the VANILLA firmware did you?
I just tried it from a native ubuntu machine with the same result. No luck, still on .44 now. Heck, i'll leave it this way until the new firmware comes out. If it does not work then, i'll return the phone...

Thnx anyways, WD

It flashes the eMMC. It can be downloaded from the same place as the firmware images (see http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware). It's called VANILLA because it doesn't contain any of the region-specific map data that came on the N900s as standard.

It appears that I may have a permanently bricked phone now. I've tried all of the steps for the flasher program, but I can't even get the phone to boot into production mode to do the flash. It is stuck in a boot loop where it shows the nokia logo (without the backlight on) and then shuts off. I don't know if its charging properly either. The amber light turns on for a few seconds, the nokia logo is displayed and then it reboots or sometimes the amber light doesn't come on at all. It does the same thing with a wall charger. Holding down the U key to get into production mode doesn't change the behavior at all. Anyone experience this level of problem after PR1.1 update?

That sounds like a low battery issue - can you charge it externally (in a separate charger or another phone)?

no... I don't have another way to charge the battery. The battery was originally fully charged before I tried to do the flash. Maybe it died during the process???

I've got the same problem. I let the Nokia Software Updater run the firmware update while I was away from the computer and came back to see a message that told me the update failed.

Now I have a phone that does the same thing. It looks like when I try to plug it in to charge its starts charging a little bit and then tries to boot(?) preventing it from charging further, causing it to run out of battery and start the cycle over again. Pressing the "U" key doesn't cause it to do anything different when it starts up.

I've ordered a BL-5J wall charger off ebay. I hope it gets here before the end of the week. I don't want to have to deal with Amazon/Nokia customer service or have to ship it off anywhere.

God, this sucks. At least my stuff was back up and haven't eBay'ed my n95 yet.

You put it into flashmode (production mode) by:
- Shutting it down (remove the battery and reinsert it if you have to)
- while OFF, hold the u key
- then plug it into your PC.

The Nokia logo should be visible but without the backlight and the USB logo is visible in the upper right corner.

I don't think that your phone is totally bricked. Really, try to backflash it to version 41. I'm happy that i'm not the only one with this issue
