Amazing. I'm really looking forward to a more mature version of this. Great work!

Seems to work fine. Installed dependencies first.

It's a little on the slow side, and the menus don't display well, but I read you're working on those issues.

Good work, and thank you.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Downloaded the deb file, opened terminal, enabled root and ran the following:

/home/user/MyDocs/.documents/Downloads # dpkg -i stellarium_0.10.3r4182-1_armel.deb
Selecting previously deselected package stellarium.
(Reading database ... 25004 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking stellarium (from stellarium_0.10.3r4182-1_armel.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of stellarium:
stellarium depends on libqt4-maemo5-core (>= 4.6.0~git20100111); however:
Package libqt4-maemo5-core is not installed.
stellarium depends on libqt4-maemo5-gui (>= 4.6.0~git20100111); however:
Package libqt4-maemo5-gui is not installed.
stellarium depends on libqt4-maemo5-network (>= 4.6.0~git20100111); however:
Package libqt4-maemo5-network is not installed.
stellarium depends on libqt4-maemo5-opengl (>= 4.6.0~git20100111); however:
Package libqt4-maemo5-opengl is not installed.
stellarium depends on libqt4-maemo5-script (>= 4.6.0~git20100111); however:
Package libqt4-maemo5-script is not installed.
stellarium depends on libqt4-maemo5-svg (>= 4.6.0~git20100111); however:
Package libqt4-maemo5-svg is not installed.
stellarium depends on libqt4-maemo5-test (>= 4.6.0~git20100111); however:
Package libqt4-maemo5-test is not installed.
stellarium depends on libqt4-maemo5-xml (>= 4.6.0~git20100111); however:
Package libqt4-maemo5-xml is not installed.
dpkg: error processing stellarium (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
stellarium

Trying the suggestion posted earlier, I ran:

/home/user/MyDocs/.documents/Downloads # apt-get -f install
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Correcting dependencies... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
stellarium
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 3 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
After this operation, 44.5MB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? y
(Reading database ... 25801 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing stellarium ...

I thought I'd try to run dpkg -i again with the same result as above, I then tried to apt-get the libraries by listing them and got:

/home/user/MyDocs/.documents/Downloads # apt-get install libqt4-maemo5-core libqt4-maemo5-opengl libqt4-maemo5-network libqt4-maemo5-gui libqt4-maemo5-script libqt4-maemo5-svg libqt4-maemo5-test libqt4-maemo5-xml libqt4-maemo5-dbus
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package libqt4-maemo5-core is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package libqt4-maemo5-core has no installation candidate

Running just apt-get install libqt4-maemo5-core yielded the same result.

Any advice?

you have to install the qt packages first, like it's suggested in the first post.
maybe you don't have the right repositorys? it's extras devel or testing needed?

If I'm reading your post correctly, you're saying I need to have extras devel or testing enabled in order to get the packages? Well, in my post above, I did not have them enabled. Now that I do I am getting the message:

E: Couldn't find package libqt4-maemo-core

Do I need another repository enabled?

zehjotkah, this is an awesome app! I have just seen the video and it is amazing, with all the options and switches you have in there. I can't wait to see the first stable build for testers to download.

How about using the accelerometer for navigation ?
So you can "point the device at what you want to identify" kinda thing..
Will this work ?
No. The N900 would need a compass for that. It can be "done" via a number of logical workarounds, including using the GPS and making the user walk in the direction they are facing until the direction is determined, or forcing teh user to initialize and reinitialize which direction is north. Neither of these workarounds would promote a positive user experience.
