I hear ya. I always figure on 2 years or more from a phone unless of course there's a drop/breakage/malfuction problem. I only got 15 months from my G1. It still works ok but the combination of limited hardware and Android finally just drove me crazy.

I don't think that will be a problem with the N900 or Maemo. And the N900 hardware feature set is almost exactly what I want/need. Who knows if Nokia's next Maemo goodies will suit me as well.

I fully expect Maemo 6 on N900, same way all of Nokias major competitors do.

I'm looking foward to all these cheap N900's coming onto the used market. I will need to upgrade the familys three E63s in about a year, and they are all pining after my N900

Please PM me when you can do me a good deal.

i had for more the 2 years a E90.. never got really an upgrade.
Yes some minor firmware upgrades, but E90 was a S60v3 FP1 phone
but did i ever receive an upgrade to S60v3 FP2 ?? nope never got it.
Which other phone of nokia ever got even a feature pack upgrade?? So not even talking about a S60 version (v2 to v3) but just a FP...

I never sell open devices, and N900 is enough open to fit that category (even the things that are not open can be rev-engineered if needed be). I'm still using my 5-6 years old Linksys WRT54GS and it only got better with time - now I use it as my primary WiFi router that I've customized to do tons of things that todays' routers ten times the price cannot do (and there are people that are doing even crazier things with those devices - e.g. http://www.jbprojects.net/projects/wifirobot/ )... So, there will be a use for it even in a few years from now, maybe something completely different than what it was meant to be.

That being said, I do hope that M6 will be available for N900 and I'd be very disappointed otherwise. I certainly won't buy the next Maemo device anyway, if the claims are true that it won't have a resistive screen and hardware keyboard - those two are must-have, and lack of them is a clear show-stopper in my book.

I voted not sure because I don't know what that device will be like. Maybe it has bloody wings. I agree with the previous post - it's open and an open machine is always useful - heck it could be a NAS, an access point, a rescue device, media center, whatever. Unlikely. But you never know.

If the movie 2012 is to be believed... then we would be wasting our money on a new device. ;-)

I think it would be too early to dispose within a year unless there is something spectacular in Maemo 6. If it is just multitouch and QT. Then I think will stick with N900 and GTK+.

Which will have Qt and WRT, too. So I guess the N900 will largely be binary compatible with a Maemo6 device. But maybe it will officially get Maemo6.
