I am seeing the same issues when connecting to my Linksys WRT54GS router. Connection gets dropped fairly often (true, it happens more often when I'm connected to the 770 using SSH). The Linksys is on channel 7 and I have two other access points in the house, one on channel 1 (an Airport Express from Apple) and another one on channel 11 (an ASUS WL-500gx). The connection to the Apple Airport Express seems to be solid most of the time, no dropouts or anything. But when connecting to the Linksys it disconnects very very often, sometimes it takes 3-4 retries to connect. I have tried both WEP and WPA-PSK, didn't seem to make a difference.

I'm pretty sure it's not a range issue, the 770 is literally within centimeters from the wireless router (all 3 routers sit under my desk and the 770 is on the desk).

Also, I'm pretty sure the Linksys is not faulty, I have a Pocket PC (an iPaq 4150) connecting to it even from outside the house with no problems (never dropped a connection) and also a wireless SIP phone (Zyxel P2000W) that connects without a hitch and never disconnects.

Any ideas?

I have WRT54G too and had same symptoms too but no more. Done following:
- found that 770's WLAN has no droppings if 770 is nearer than 2 meters from WRT54G. (Unfortunately I don't remember all the Mode settings I tried.)
- updated WRT54G's firmware but no improvements
- updated 770's Nokia software: WLAN frequent droppings disappeared
- but there is still limitation: droppings appear if I use "G-only" setting to WRT54G Network Mode and disappear if I use "Mixed" setting. This means that 770 uses B-mode instead of G-mode which thus seems to be too fast for 770. But no worry, B-mode is 11 Mbps (G: 54 Mbps) and good broadband is e.g. 1 Mbps, so the bottle neck of bitrate from Internet is the broadband.

OK, I am back on the powerbook, I use the 770 to post the messages above. Now, the 770 disconnects almost after every web page. This is unusable. It does not disconnect if internet radio is active, but I understand that the messages above indicate a problem with power saving, and this may explain that...

I tried rebooting, no effect

I tried rebooting without my mmc card, no effect.

I flashed the latest firmware. (-8)
It does not markedly improve things. I disconnect and still see similar messages with dmesg.

Note that flashing the firmware erases installed applications and that those are not backed up on the MMC. So I had to re-install terminal. Although, maybe this is only a problem with the flashing utility for apple.

BTW, thanks to Andrew Flegg for the Cocoa flashing utility (if he evers reads this message).

Apparently, this is an old bug, look here:
https://maemo.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=192

It doesn't make me any happier, though.

I would like to add that I noticed this problem at home (WPA-PSK, hidden wlan name, g mode only) and in the internet cafe next door (no encryption, broadcast wlan name, b mode).

No, this is _not_ the same bug. Your problem is different and looks more like:

OK. So it is not the same problem. Thank you to re-close bug number 192. Now: what do I do?
