Its not a gaming phone like the iPhone and never was supposed to be, So "Fun" doesn't really cover it.....Imo...

Just a thought here, since when have phones been gauged on how ambitious they are based on how many apps they have?

But I shall approach this nonsensical argument none the less with a simple question in the hope that you would understand it: From the Iphones 1000 million apps how many are of actual value?

Oh yeah and lastly...

We get access to root...and if you don't know what that means then this phone is probably not for you.

Oh, so because I don't go into the root and programme my phone to go get me some coffee, I should sell the phone? Is that what you're saying?

And I don't think I ever mentioned that iPhone has 1000 million apps?

Besides stop talking down to me, like I'm 13 year old. Just because I don't use my phone for commodore64-games, it doesn't mean that I don't get to make a point in here. Clear?

How very true indeed! To sell more, you have to target the large masses, the dumb and the mediocre. You don't call them that to their face though -- being an outright elitist prick never helps anyone... just keep quiet, sell junk to the marks, and laugh all the way to the bank...

There's like - what? 165 apps at the moment? How can that compare to Apples thousands of apps? Answer: it can't.

So unless Nokia wants to loose anymore shares to Apple (and this is happening as we speak), then Nokia needs to hire some developers, do a money-for-apps-program or whatever. Cause this just isn't ambitious enough!

I'd like to hear other peoples reaction to this. No flames, thank you.

it is very simple. where is Apple dominant: USA. which population will fork out money for applications: USA. Where would you as a developer put your efforts to make money, iphone, iphone, iphone because it controls the richest market and you can make 100s of thousands as a developer with successful iphone application....

where is NOKIA dominant: underdeveloped world. will those people fork out dollars to buy an application if there is a freeby:NO. will developers waste their time on such markets......NO!

I think what the # of iPhone apps represent is the (commercial) developer's community interest on the platform. That is their strength: Apple has found a workable formula where:

- The platform is interesting enough for 3rd party developers to create new products and sells on at an acceptable revenue.
- The customers likes the quantity and quality of apps enough at the suggested price points
- Apple gets a nice chunk of change from all this and maintains the system in exchange

IMHO, you can't just create an open platform and throw it out there and hope for the best to succeed. That is what we're seeing in step 4 out of 5.

this argument is just rubbish.

most iphone apps are just interfaces for websites because iphone web browers sucks bollocks. i.e. N900 doesn't need a Engadget app because N900 microB browser can display site well but iphone web browser is crap and can't display the site so it needs an app.

"Again", its not just about "running NT 4.0", but having a device "capable" of running alternate OS, a resource intensive one at that. This equates to having "good hardware" and a “robust OS". However given that "the device" is capable of running alternate OS, if software support is not currently available, or may never be available, "again" [B]no sling support[B] then it offers more functionality and flexibility.

You need to understand that "hardware saturation" drives "application development". Nobody is going to put a lot of effort on a platform that is undergoing constant significant evolution...esp. if it has a short lifespan.
