Looks like you´re in a need of Android device.
Motorola Droid is very similiar to N900 and should comply with your wishes.

The excitement over Maemo/N900 is lacking at Nokia (or Nokia cannot afford it anymore), and now this lack of excitement is affecting us.

I'm starting to doubt the whole MeeGo-thing as well. There is nothing happening at their web site.
Agree fully N900and its upcommings could be a great OpenSource based tablet/phone but nokia is failing cause of the shitty bussines. The stockholders want fast money back. And thats why nokia still focusing on old crap like symbian. They invested to mush money on that crap and now stockholders want money back fast.

Also media always will compare all other phones with hyped Iphone **** thats why Nokia is releasing N8 instead of focusing on Meego.

IMHO! they should drop Symbian4 and get more engineers working on MeeGo/Harmattan instead on ALL upcoming N based phones but this will probadly never happen :-(

Broken bussiness as usual :-(̈́

ATM. it feels very sad as for us who want OpenSource based good phones/tablets instead of closed crap like Iphone and broken Linux like Android.

Good to see Then there is hope. On the other hand, I have had this phone for more than 6 months now. That is longer than average for me, and I guess for lots of others here also.

If you're a developer, the n900 is an exciting gift from Nokia that just keeps on giving. If you're not, and your only hobby is tech lust, I would suggest you put your eggs in more than one basket.

Go find yourself a used Droid; a kicka*s piece of hardware (same OMAP3 base as n900?) on a solid OS, and I hear it's gonna receive Android 2.2 support. If the JIT is as good as they say, that will breath new life into an already very good device. And not to mention the Flash 10.1 support for those that are into that sorta thing.

iPhone OS 4 should be extra creamy; I just read where they upped the background thread request time from 5 to 10 minutes. 10 minutes? Sorry folks, but when combined with possible asynchronous notification callbacks, for all intents and purposes, that's developer-level multi-tasking. So, come the fall pick up a new iPod touch (maybe with camera and who knows what else), or get a deal on a Cortex A-8 3rd generation. Also, Apple has added general computing API's for the other on-board processors; I'm not sure it's considered OpenCL, but in the right developer's hands, an iPhone OS 4 device has the potential of becoming a multi-processing, multi-tasking monster. And then when their version of a Cortex A-9 comes out...

To be fair and accurate, if I understand the hardware API's correctly, the n900 and the Droid could also use their other processors for certain forms of general computing.

And last but not least, there will be MeeGo, with most likely some form of full hardware support for the n900. Plenty of seasonal excitement to go around!

Well yeah Nokia wants revenues. Symbian makes revenues. Why not?

About the stockholders you're wrong tho. Decentralized equity ownership (largest owners being instutional and at the level of lets say 1%) through a longlasting managerial strategy has managed to keep stockholders WAAAAY out of any decision making. All the decisions are done in-house. So you can freely blame management for any problems you think there might be.

What's maecode? apt-cache searched it, googled for it, no references.

For me the excitement for the n900 went out the window as fast as nokia pr 1.2 update schedule...

I have been told week 14-16 of 2010 , then week 16-18, then possibly week 20, now absolutely no date forthcoming.

Thats from one of the worlds leading telecommunications suppliers ? Not good at all

Forget the apps, forget the meego compatibility ( will believe that when its working in my hand) the fact is Nokia is losing the smartphone plot big time, and whether i get a kicking or not , its a SMARTPHONE , not an internet tablet blah blah , thats not how nokia marketed it , at least in the uk, they marketed it as smartphone meets mobile computer , or just smartphone.

My 2 cents worth , is Nokia guessed it to sell maybe 10 thousand units worldwide as a stopgap, and are now scared to death as its sold i bet 5 times that , and don't know how to deal with it ..
Just my opinion, in case anyone thinks similar !

Note that Nokia themselves have never given a timetable for PR1.2, any "date" or "schedule" has been a product of rumor and idle speculation.

I'm waiting on PR 1.2 before I start adding new Applications. I've been pretty much "On hold" in terms of improving my N900 for a few months....
