The guide looks scary because of the command prompt with eMMC flash.

eMMC is not necessary if I don;t want to clean up my storage. Therefore, 3 minutes is more than enough.

Thanks.

now time to restore my data....
Just confirmed, my restore works no problem as well. It even went on-line to update all the extra program. wow... 200MB to be downloaded....

NSU:
  • IF your download is stuck, u can alternatively DL the firmware image manually (RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin for global) from here
  • Then u have to copy the DL image to this folder in Vista/W7 C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Nokia Service Layer\A\nsl_service_module_00001\vpls\www.dsut.onl ine.nokia.com.oti.caresuite\Products\rx-51 (just insert this in the default windows file manager or to the start menu search).
  • Then run NSU again and it will run the fw update.

EDIT: the folder ProgramData is invisible by default. Before inserting the folder link in file manager (or search), delete the space in www.dsut.online.nokia.com.oti.caresuite part of the link. In windows XP as Larswad said is "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Service Layer\A\nsl_service_module_00001\vpls\www.dsut.onl ine.nokia.com.oti.caresuite\Products\rx-51"

I used Nokia Software Update to update it, after downloaded 184M and wrote some data to my N900. It couldn't find my phone. No it turns to brick, just stop at the blue "Nokia" startup picture.

I just removed the battery and restarted the phone, the phone can start up, but it's still in old edition.

Searching for a connected device on software updated and ota says to usa PC... I have around 50mb free df -h /root.
I don't have many applications and I don't know which ones to remove, I don't really want to go deleting random stuff losing stuff saved with them...

Sigh! Thanks for trying to help, but not many things seems to be correct or understandable there. The "ProgramData" folder doesn't exist on XP. You never stated what operating system you used (I believe it's a Vista or Win7 path, C:\ProgramData). There are folders under C:\Program\Nokia, but none through the hierarchy below there matches the path that you specified. Further, the proxy stuff that you talked about...ehm, do you simply mean that I could download the image manually from the link that you specified, and then place that image in that (nonexistant) path that you specified?

Interesting! Now I realize it IS a server problem at Nokia. Using the link http://nds2.fds-fire.nokia.com/fdp/i...ED_MR0_ARM.bin
with either windows or wget under linux the download is prematurely cut off from the server side at around 32 MB (reports 206 Partial Content). So what the hell is going on with this server?
Dammit! This must be reported to Nokia, this is the actual problem. Are there any mirrors for this very same file that WORKS?

EDIT: Downloaded the image from http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php
I just hope it's the same that the updater uses (for me, the global image should be the right one). I placed it in the updaters folder, I finally found it. Since I'm an XP user, the folder path for me was:
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Service Layer\A\nsl_service_module_00001\vpls\www.dsut.onl ine.nokia.com.oti.caresuite\Products\rx-51"

Hope it help! Updating now with NSU!
