Of course they were. Back then these were working boards for Maemo enthusiasts. The N900 proved to be a vast improvement over the 770 & N800/810's we were using at that time.

Many of the bugs that were corrected, features that were added, and applications available for the N900 were reported, designed, and/or developed by these same enthusiasts.
And to spite the apparent lack of constructive input from these boards now, I'm sure the next device will be a great improvement over the N900.

Not to be rude to anybody as I'm asking this rhetorically: Did maemo.org sell you your N900?

If the answer is no then why come here and complain? Go to the people who sold it to you.

And I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that 90% of the people who complain, interrupt working threads with "Just a quick question about MMS", or who cross post the sub forums with the same question or statement because it wasn't responded to instantly, and whose demeaner and negativity could suck the enthusiasm out of Richard freakin' Simmons, didn't buy their N900 from Nokia directly either.

They more than likely bought their N900's from a retailer or service provider who earned money on the sale. Go to them please. They took your money. Those are the people you have a gripe with...

...again speaking rhetorically.

EDIT: Because I'm on a rhetericol role here.

I bet the knuckleheads that sold them their dang N900 are the same ones who directed them to talk.maemo.org in the first place. With a line something like: "They have a great forum that will help you out with any problems that you may have." Yeeesh! Look around this page will ya? Do you see any adverts? maemo.org makes nothing on providing you this space you use to verbally choke your chicken.

[lightbulb] IDEA! [/lightbulb] If we do make a "Whine & Cheezy" sub-forum, saturate the sucker with boner pill ads and whatnot and make some money off this crap.

No, this is not the only real output nor is it the best. Use the Nokia forums. This forum is not intended to be the proxy for punishing Nokia.

Oh well, I see that a lynch mob mentality has infected almost everyone..
No. No. No. I have not seen a single moderator here talk or act as if he/she encouraged disorder.

And lynch mob??? That conspiratorial hyperbole is an insult to every person who's actually suffered such a thing in real life rather than some opinionated annoyance on a discussion forum.

I started coming here (this site parents) because there was so much cool info to learn about my N810.
I joined the forum to ask questions and learn some more.

One thing that hasn't been mentions it the humour, a lot of posts make fun of people or situations, quite funny but inappropriate.
(two examples come to mind 1) fixing my map application by interning the doom cheat codes in the terminal, 2) someone learning Linux and asking for help with xterminal being told to enter the code to format his device, yes funny but degrading the site.)

I have become more cynical after participating constructively in bugzilla, only to find Nokia have outsourced the moderation of the site. I can only imagine there performance is related to closing bugs and the resulting WONTFIX looks like progress but is slowly killing the project as lots of valuable feedback is just shut out.

The other frustration is thee are genuine disappointments to do with the n900 and this forum isn't relay the place to gripe, but there are hard core fans that would rather confront and argue than just get on with it and.

I get the feeling that Nokia is abandoning this ship as I don't see bugs being fixed but rather just being closed, and people feeling left out in the cold looking to vent.

What do you think of this response by a non-moderator? To me it's not the kind of comment that should be encouraged. I believe it was the second comment in a thread:

:hahaha....you suck!!!

You know, I can never find that Moderator list when I look for it-- who's the moderator in that group?

If there's no moderator in that group, I'm wrong again.

I don't single people out by name -- the only reason I printed that was to show what my reasoning is based on.

ppl come here because nokia doesnt give out information - ppl learn more here about the device then there - this is a reality that cant be denied. so ppl regard these as "official" boards because there is more info here.

it all comes back to the same thing, if Nokia communicated properly you wont have this situation. but they dont and this is the reality of what is happening now.
