I'm having the same problem. In addition, the radio signal is interrupted by a quick burst of static every minute or so (I haven't timed it exactly). The output from the media player is not affected, and sounds great through my powered speakers.

I normally leave Bluetooth turned off, and FM Radio turns on the module for me. Could this be the problem? Is the application somehow mishandling turning the BT module off and on again? I find that the application works if I just leave the N900 alone for a while, but not if I turn the radio off and back on in a few minutes. Again, I don't have specific times, but can try to measure if needed.

It's normally used by FM Radio and was in the extras repository.

For the FM radio support of Qt mobile, Nokia is now using this package, too, so they put it into the Nokia update repository, probably built from an unstable SVN version.

Replacing it with the stable version from extras may help until this issue got resolved.
Looking at the source of the Nokia version 1.5-4+0m5 at http://repository.maemo.org/pool/mae...-fmrx-enabler/ and comparing to the 1.5-1 version in Extras at http://repository.maemo.org/extras/p...-fmrx-enabler/ I see no difference in the actual code, unless I'm doing the comparison wrong. So I guess the bug or change is elsewhere.

If I leave my radio open for 5 minutes I don't get anything at all. Even if I close the BT or open or let it open by the FM RP or change channel. Every time I change channel, I see that error cannot load fm radio driver. It seem that the problem is related to the radio driver loading or something is keeping off loading but I not a specialist in that mather maybe someone could help us

Hmm, sounds like a different issue than what I'm experiencing. I don't get any error messages, just silence. After waiting 30 minutes, and then 2 hours, still silence. But if I leave it overnight, the receiver starts working again.

I normally leave BT off, so I just set it to ON, then restarted the device, and the FM receiver is working fine (hey, no static bursts either!). I will try turning the FM Radio application off and then on in a little while, and see if it's still working. Update in an hour or two, unless I forget... For now, I'll just groove to the music.

I have notice something, if my BT is off before opening the FMRP it use to open the BT but now it doesn't, I have to open it manually but it doesn't change anything. When I open FMRP it say BT on but it doesn't open and after it does the error code. I have try to open the BT on manually after so it stay open and then change the channel, it stay open but still get the error code

I'm on PR1.3 and FM Radio Player v2010.03.20 works perfectly for me.

The version that's in Extras-Devel (v2010.03.40) doesn't work at all though (and it didn't work on PR1.2 either) -- it just quits immediately after launching.

My only issue with FM Radio Player is that I wish it wouldn't try to rotate into portrait mode.

Anyone have any suggestions about stopping that (the CMD+Shift shortcut only works for one launch)?

EDIT:

FWIW, I don't have this issue with v2010.03.20 -- I just tried turning BT off and launching FMRP and it turned on the BT module and displayed the notification as expected.

Well, after waiting two hours (raking leaves... ouch!) I turned off FM Radio, waited 30s, turned it on again, and... silence. Crap. So it doesn't appear to matter if the user has BT on or not (and yes, I know the software says it will turn the BT module on, but it never hurts to check).

On the bright side, I think the "static" bursts I sometimes hear are a side effect of charging the battery at the same time. When the battery's full, the noise disappears.
