Using the -f 17 option will get you the low quality stream. By the way, I have now added the low quality stream option in cuteTube.

Can anyone still use youtube-dl to download vids from youtube URLs? All week it' just stoppeed working for me anymore. All attempts end with:

Extracting video information
ERROR: unable to download video (format may not be available)

Perhaps youtube changed something in their back end to block this kind of activity?

Noticed that too, it even stopped working on Ubuntu
I wish cuteTube would go back to using mplayer or the internal player.

Yes youtube did something to stop it working a short while ago. The upstream youtube-dl has fixed it,maybe give the maemo packager a nudge?

No need to install it as a package. You can just download the script and place it in the folder of your choice.

Well, I agree that there's no "need", but there's a reason for having easy to install fixes. We might as well ditch the repository structure and dig up dependencies for our programs anywhere on the internet.

So yes, I'd say the app developer should, when (s)he can of course, upload the fix. Dismissively suggesting that it's just as fine otherwise is good in that it allows people to know how to fix it in the interim, but at the same time it encourages further degeneration of the already somewhat screwed up repository system we have going. I mean, half the good stuff isn't in Extras (and little is even in Testing relatively to Devel), and out of that, there's a bunch that's not even IN Devel, but instead you have to perform some convoluted search on here to find the right thread, search it for links, and then if you're lucky, there's a .deb or install shell script to do the work for you. All the hildon mods, some of the stock application tweeks/fixes, Navit (I think what's in the repo is a much earlier version), sunvox, gpSP (I think that's what it's called - the gameboy advanced emulator from Figa), and the latest three versions of Conky... As was the case for ApMeFo... dev of the newer version pushed it to Devel, but I haven't seen it show up yet.

This is not good for ease/enjoyment of use, and horrible for the more casual users. And many programs just don't get noticed as a result. I wouldn't encourage that any more than it's already happened.

Calm down mate. I'm only saying that there's an alternative for those that don't want to wait. Anyhow, I trust you'll be contacting the maintainer ASAP in order to avoid the pending crisis.

I am very calm. I wrote out what was necessary to write to make the point I had to make.

And actually, I'm lazy. So I probably won't be contacting anyone directly (unless there's no developer response and/or no one else says they did it for a while). I would hope this thread is contact enough. That's what it's here for.

I did, and it gave me a 403 on a video.
PaulFertser noticed that cookies have to be used now.
ytstream:
Code:
mplayer -cookies -cookies-file youtube.cookies -cache 2048 "`youtube-dl --cookies youtube.cookies -f 18 -g $1`"
youtube-dl usage:
Code:
youtube-dl --cookies youtube.cookies $URL
If anyone can confirm that the new youtube-dl does indeed fix it, I'll send a new package.
