My priorities (must have HW keyboard):
N9
Nokia WP/Bada
HP (looks way too ugly right now, and not readily available)
Some Intel stuff maybe?

I only care about the phone. Who makes it is irrelevant.
So do think the N9 will have that Sony chip in still?

Whatever happens in this thread, one thing needs to happen... much more people than us lot here at ITT (oops, I meant TMO) need to influence entire regions.

India, China and others need to show their vote of confidence with their money.

With that said... let's see what happens.

But to sell like crazy (mass market), it has to
- UI has to be buttery smooth
- the maps app like has be as good as google maps (smooth UI, 95% accuracy in search results)
- out of box apps, facebook, youtube, email, twitter, internet radio have to polished
- dev support out of the gate, docs and apps to write apps from windows, linux, mac

If its none of the above, it becomes plainly obvious why Elop had to make the swtch (i.e Nokia engineering first (who cares about usability) culture simply cannot be changed)
Bugelrex's post is the clearest, most concise and fair assessment of the MeeGo situation I believe I've read here. It gets bonus points for not invoking sinister conspiracy theories. It also gets people to think like a CEO and understand why the decisions were made that were made.

Sounds familiar? huh? So is there any company that really gets it and is lead by community?
The question is, is there any community that really gets it and knows anything about companies? Is HP supposed to wave a magic wand and magically get their product finished, agreements with carriers, into the retail supply chain, etc? It's coming out in the summer because that's when it'll be ready to come out. It's not some sinister conspiracy. I swear, there's less conspiracy at the Above Top Secret message board.

I was already not planning to buy Meego from Nokia, because as I said zillions of times, "I don't trust Nokia."

I am going to forego a smartphone entirely after my N900 -- I think most of this smartphone stuff is based on fad/hype anyway. Well, I might go with some Webos thing like the Veer, if the price is right.

In a year or so I hope my comp fun will be in using a tablet of some kind. Unlikely it will be from Nokia. Meego is possible, though.

So no, I'm not donating to Nokia's coffers just because it is holding Meego hostage or something. Just say no to meego, sounds like a catchy slogan for awhile.

I think some people are upset because you admit you don't have superb managerial skill or business knowhow yet you seem to be second-guessing those who do (not that 90% of the posts here aren't doing the same thing ).

A company can't lead by following the whims of a small yet very vocal subset of customers. I only worked a short time at a large corporate HQ but it was enough to see that there is a great deal of planning and forecasting, vendor concerns, supply chain issues, etc. that go into making product decisions. I won't go into examples because they're way off topic, but I've seen even simple changes to the way store restocking is handled save a million dollars (and one missed mistake with a zip code cost a million dollars). Those who understand that might get annoyed when people ask things like "Why don't you just sell your product cheaper?" or "Why don't you introduce your product four months sooner?" There's an implication that people running companies are just clueless and are missing something obvious that everyone else (who don't have any inside knowledge) can see. The vast majority of posts here assume that MeeGo was all set to go, was awesome, and Mr. Elop just changed to WP7 because he's incredibly stupid or part of a Satanic conspiracy. I think it's beginning to wear some people down (like me ). Second-guessing these people with little or no inside information that informed their decision is incredibly unfair at best.

With all due respect, if Slender doesn't have any of those things, why is he lecturing HP about releasing a phone?

And could we PLEASE give the silly conspiracies a rest? Nokia's smartphone market share falling 10% in 2010 did not make it a dangerous competitor to Microsoft. MS can't "plant" anyone anywhere. Nokia's board brought Elop in. The board changed CEOs because it was ALREADY IN TROUBLE THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH MICROSOFT. Is this the kind of community thinking you and Slender believe should run a company?

Maybe Steve Ballmer has kidnapped Steve Jobs and was behind the kidnapping of the Google exec in Egypt too? Maybe Microsoft engineered the overthrow of Mubarak because he was a dangerous competitor?

I believe many posters here need an N9 much less than they need Occam's Razor.

That's an empty assertion, not an actual argument, which would have facts and logic connecting those facts. You just arbitrarily eliminated any OS option that wasn't MeeGo.

Google is battling Apple just fine with a single OS and other handset manufacturers are also selling quite nicely with an OS that is partially developed behind closed doors.

I am not sure if I will buy a meego device from Nokia, unless I am convinced that they will support this device in the future.

To me it looks like they are releasing this device to satisfy there commitments to Intel and then throw no resources at it in the future.
