Personally I would leave it with the generic UK firmware. AFAIK the only thing I can see which the VF variant has is the APN details already loaded when you get the phone which is a lot less than they usually put on.

I think that the network branded firmwares get updates slower than generic and if you decide to get rid of the handset then a generic firmware would be better IMO. The operator SIM will not make a difference AFAIK.

Nobody has yet been able to determine any difference between any of the firmware variants, and Nokia seem disinclined to help on this. There certainly seems to be no difference between the generic UK and the Vodafone UK firmware, and as the Vodafone UK updates haven't yet been badly delayed (as they often are with Symbian), there appears little point in switching.

My N900 came from Car Phone Warehouse, completely unlocked and unbranded from Vodafone. I don't think there are any branded N900s out there.

No update for me yet.

Neither of these are available yet. I think the Uk people who've updated already are those running the global (MR0) firmware.

This thread is SO similar to the "When will the N900 ship"-threads that it sediments my existing opinions about any and all N900 owners...

Going to try updating to the new FW via flashing. Just wanted to confirm that RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin is the right file for me.

My N900 was from Nokia UK.
