Yes it was an abomination, but it's also an abomination that Nokia never finished executing a solution to that problem...
Tragedy is if WP8's a success, those who argue that Nokia can't do OS/apps/content PERIOD will be vindicated, & their view of history will pervade.

Yeah, I think WP8 will arguably prove successful, at least more than 7. But what escapes my understanding is why did Nokia not push, in their contract with MS, for a bit more freedom? Surely WP8 handsets don't compete with <80$ feature phones now, do they? [-(

No disrespect meant to those that lost their job nor how this could have been a big thing for Nokia; however in the end, Meltemi was a low-end product.

I cannot say that I'm personally going to miss it. I am going to miss Maemo/MeeGo though.

Actually some have said it could easily be used in high-end products.

Meltemi was almost ready for release. Possible slogan: Melted me
Good job elop.

S40 is a low end product, it's still a big thing for Nokia.

If Symbian was so much a burning platform, how can they justify to themselves to not replace S40? It feels like they're giving up on the dumbphone market too.

Sigh......
http://mynokiablog.com/2012/06/26/le...ons-on-screen/
So it WAS well & truly on schedule, & to be announced very soon.
So much for it supposedly constantly slipping WRT milestones etc.
And many who felt it was good for low-to-mid (just so long as it didn't creep into upper-mid & top) are now arguing exactly the opposite.
Gee, I wonder why.....
