Do the Olympic sailors have to undergo drug testing?

Yes OFC...plus their boats are examined.

Cheaters are everywhere

But it more likely to use marijuana during a party then steroids, blood dope or something like that.

Ok, so I'm old . . .

I finally got around to googling what the kids mean by "OFC". Previously, I'd just ignored it and read the sentence as if it weren't there. As it turns out, that was a valid assumption. Kinda like adding "at this point in time" for the MBA-types to pad out sentence length.

Also, sailing? Sailing? What about jacks? At least that's a sport*. Sailing is a passtime, like hockey or photography.

So in the spirit of counting down, how long till the Olympics are over? With all this doping, it's just a big scam.

*Sport (n): a game played with a ball.

Very interesting to see Finland at the top. If the US had won gold medals at the same rate as Finland, they would have won every single Gold Medal! Another interesting thing is that a good chunk the Finland's medals were won in the 1920s. Over 75% of the gold were won before the 1960s. Is this an indication of a decline of an athletic culture in Finland?

Yes, I suppose so

In reality I think there are at least 2 factors contributing to that;
  • 1.) In the early day there were just a handful of countries participating to the games, hence most of the talent in the world got no chance to partake.
  • 2.) Also, and most important is tha fact that games in those days were pretty much amateur games in the spirit-of-olympics; there was no such thing as professional athletes, and "coaching" was a word not yet invented...
In reality it was just your average finnish lumberworking man who put down his axe and went to run at olympics, winning on pure strength gained from working hard day after day... something that the "civilized" countries of that time just did not have.

If there have to be Olympic games, that's the way it should be!
