I go back to what I've always said.. the silence, despite everything else, doesn't instill confidence in whether I should wait for Nokia's new product.

Well, when you look into kernel specs one device carrying all those hardware would have size of handsome brick.

I still don't get this. What silence? There's lots, and lots of noise (product announcements aren't the only form of activity) but maybe you just need to paying attention to hear it. . . .

Love it. That flow diagram speaks volumes about the incredible amount of shear complianing I am hearing.. Good God people show a little patience! Stop jumping to conclusions until you see the final product. Than you can decide whether or not you feel compelled to write off nokia.

What final product? Isn't that the vital point? I'm sure 3D Realms will EVENTUALLY release Duke Nukem Forever, too.. no really.. I'll bet that they WILL... but that pocket money you had waiting was probably better spent on food or something else in the meantime. Patience extends only so far and in the meantime, you bleed away even the faithful people who waited. I'll say again that the silence and lack of any tangible progress or date doesn't inspire confidence. The money I'm holding aside for this newer tablet might be better spent elsewhere if it turns out it won't be out for another year or two years.

Buttons/keypad will improve and the new tablets will come in variations. Instead of a single say N810 model. ...

And the news is this time they're "serious", the prior tablets were release in small batch production with no intent to make money. This time they're manufacturing in them for the masses.
Ming387's scoop (except for the bit about the different CPUs, which I left out) is very much in line with everything we've been hearing from the Nokians. While nobody's broken their NDAs, it has been fairly clear, both from the use of "Lead Device" that sjgadsby pointed out, and from the naming thread (and the various D-Pad arguments), that the new Maemo machines will come in a variety of form factors, and they will not be called "tablets" anymore. It has also seemed pretty clear that the next devices will be aimed at a much broader market segment.

But, to be honest, we can't even rule out the processor rumours. We know what the lead device's processor is (most likely) going to be, but it wouldn't be very difficult for Nokia to make Maemo devices based on differently packaged Cortex (and higher) processors, such as, say, I dunno, the Sparrow... (anyone heard any mention of that processor in relation to Nokia lately? Nahhh...)

Even the June 21st release date seems fairly likely, looking at the Fremantle roadmap and the fact that they're already slipping slightly on their schedule for the final Alpha SDK. We can always hold out hope that it'll be earlier, but I'm not counting on it...

When was DNF first promised? Nokia have said there's a new Maemo 5-powered device coming around the middle(ish) of this year. There's masses of work going on in stage.maemo.org, there're SDK pre-releases, bugs being fixed more and more in Bugzilla, open communication from Quim and the others.

Nokia haven't missed any (see below) real dates yet. 3D Realms have. Many times.

A device is coming. Unless Nokia do another hardware design muck-up, it's going to rock (hardware wise); and the expectations for Fremantle are high.
