called nokia usa this morning. they said it started shipping 2 days ago and the first-come-first-serve on the pre-orders started already.
my pre-order was sept 10, 2009, so it was early.
she said either this week or early next week i should have it.

Some people should have units in the next two days. Should be lots of posts to read by new N900 users by Friday night 
Dell apparently is an official reseller, so should have units when Nokia USA does.
