Nobody is expecting more from you individually, but if you mean to have a successful app store? Then the honest answer is, frankly, no. It's not enough. Not on it's own atleast.

To make a successful application store you need more than that. You need a large potential customer base of people like you and me who are happy to pay for quality apps, in order to get the developers interested. Then you need good development tools and resources available for the developers to work with. You also need a good quality app store with payment system. Along with that you need good marketing a bit of the x-factor to set it off. And all that gets buyers interested and starts the cycle off again..

Nokia were far too slow with Qt 4.6 sdk and pr 1.2, the Ovi store is a mess, poor marketing, you name it.. it hasn't been very successful to date. Hopefully lessons will be learned and carried forward, but it'll come too late for the n900. However the Symbian side is a lot better, in hindsight perhaps we'll see much of this wasn't really in the plan for the n900 - goals rather than necessities.
I'm sorry for overreacting. I guess i'm still angry to that one guy who thinks to know Nokias target audiense better than Nokia them self that promoted atleast here in my country N900 as a media phone. But arguing here doesn't make it better. I'll just get my coat and leave. I hope that Nokia will label their future linux phones to "uber geek step 5 of 10 nerd beta phones" so *****s like me will never buy it. Only maemo.org users having 2000+ posts is mature enough to phones like this.

I think too many people here crossed the line.

Do you really not realize that it's not Nokia who has to develop that lots of what ever software you are so much crying for?

Quite funny how like 20 disapointed guys took over that board, somehow believing they speak for the majority of happy n900 users?
you are a miserable fanboy! we are venting out in this thread. nobody has crossed the line. Nokia caused people to complain because of their lack of support to it's customers.

There isn't much (commercial!) software for the N900 because there aren't that much sold N900. If you were a software developer, would you but big money in developing software for a device with that few users? So get over it.

Or if you really want do something good: Go to the big software developers and cry there and make them believe that there is indeed a big market for software for the N900! You said "bad" (in other words) Angry Birds, it may not be yours but it is one of the most success full games for the iPhone. So be glad that Rovio ported it. Buying it could be one way to show that there is a market. Crying in a community forum at Nokia, who are not responsible for developing 3rd party games, won't do anything.

There is lots of free software partly of high quality, but don't expect that much more.

Really, consider selling your N900 now when you will still get quite something for it, and get a device which already has lots of games, simply because they sold lots of devices.
you talk like a fool mate!

yes you are right that it's the 3rd party companies that developing the apps for us, it should be nokia to deal with these companies to provide us with their quality apps, they cannot just sell software without dealing with nokia first.

If these apps doesn't appear in the OVI think about what might have cause this ... surely it's between nokia and that company.

who knows if these big developer companies backed out already because Nokia failed to deal with them appropriately.

you are saying to blame this 3rd party developer companies, but theyve got nothing to do with our problem. it should be Nokia!

It's in the ovi store the nokia point and find. But the n900 is not supported of course! What's up with that? Wonder how long it will take for it to show up for n900 users? If my memory serves me correct I first show it demoed on the n900? I really wish Nokia stop sending me emails with these nice apps that is not supported by my device.

Well said mate.
My guess is, the majority of N900 owners that are complaining here should have purchased a device that has a system in place that allows them to update new games and apps from a large data base.

Surely you all new the Pros and Cons of this device before purchasing it?

When comparing a smart phone with another, Brand A will always have some features missing that Brand B has and vice versa.
In the end it's your choice what you purchase.

What device isn't outdated in 12 months?
The Maemo community has in place the potential to create apps/games to add longevity to this device, we should be supporting them.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Cheers, ratty
