Ok I am about to head out to Newbury the head office of MobilePhonesDirect.co.uk

They stated that they had a Nokia Repair Center next door where they could get the phone looked at.

Can someone provide me with a link to the Nokia comments on this subject.

Also any advice on what other evidence / helpful info i should take in to convince them this is an issue and my phone is included?

Mh at the moment I think it's too early - not sure whether Nokia has taken a decision in this issue yet. I'd wait a couple of days...

I'm already in asia and i wont be able to get this device to nokia if it does come off. As a pre-cautionary measure i've filed off the latches of the microusb adapter as shown earlier on in this thread. Would it be a good idea to use a lil bit of super glue to fill in the gaps around the fe-male usb port on the device?

What if reason for some of broken USB port is micro-usb connector itself.

As you can see from there it looks like that there is different sizes of "lock slides" for micro-usb. What kind of standards apply to them? I would not be surprised that if for example micro-usb connectors lock-hook (i don't know what they are called) mechanism locks itself and you try to pull it out it really rips the whole port with it.

I got an encouraging email from Mark Squires, reiterating his statement that was posted on engadget. The only concern left is the disclaimer of "depending on evidence of user abuse". But rest assured I'll stay on top of that one.

Because it's shear damage, since the connector is not being pulled straight up-- and that normally takes a high amount of force. But the amount of force usually needed for a shear break would distort the connector (such as caused by someone using needle-nose pliers).

What the evidence shows is that the mounts are not even close to secure. They are pulling free of the PCB way too easily.

I took some pictures from my USB-Port. It was a bit wiggly from the moment I received it, got worse (but it kept the contact, I could still charge the phone, etc) and worse and eventually came off all the way.






What do you think Texrat?

I think he's asking if this looks like something that should be covered by warranty (i.e. not self-inflicted). Given that it wobbled from the start it sounds like 'Yes' to me. (Actually, if any of you gets a phone with a wobbly usb connector you should IMO return it immediately. It is supposed to feel rock solid.)
