Wow, I just got to work this morning and loaded up ITT and am amazed to see all the activity about the new OS2008. I'm still trying to get through all the threads.

I want to sincerely apologize to ThoughtFix for my previous post linking to the dmesg.txt he had kindly posted for the community a while back. I was very caught up in the excitement of the new firmware and I didn't stop to consider any negative consequences of what I did.

...downloaded all western US maps for the native mapper app-
It is pretty nice but lacks street names in 3d as well as guidance without purchase.

As soon as I was on my home lan though,
my N800 w/2008os found all of my shared windows folders on 4 different computers as well as my NAS drive, without ANY configuration.

I have, however, completely opened up sharing on my windows machines via regedit.exe

It streams my music and movie files from any computer in my house as well as from the NAS.

Overall, this is a very snappy, effective OS for my N800,
more of a drastic fantastic upgrade than old 2005 ->2006 N700 upgrade from so long ago.

Still though, the greatest is XMAME w/ 400mhz. I just had to learn a few command prompts to get the double size, full screen, rotate, etc.

I wholeheartedly recommend this upgrade.

p.s. for the person who couldn't get his bluetooth DUN phone to connect,
you have to first connect as a bluetooth device, not as a phone.

THEN, OS2008 should ask you if you want to add the device as a phone. It saw my hermes HTC as a PDA at first.....

sleepless,
dcarter

I've been giving OS2008 some heavy use tonight and I have to retract my previous criticisms (For now anyway ). After reflashing without restoring my OS2007 backup files I've only had a single browser crash. Everything else has been a joy to use. A nice fast and responsive OS. Congratulations to the team responsible.

I second all the positive comments here. A great improvement. I'm especially happy with the responsiveness and looks of the UI.

The 2008 Scratchbox is working great, at least for my favorite console apps.

I wonder if Skype is not available yet because next version is the Linux version that supports video?

I ve read this on pymaemo mailing list :

"If I understood correctly libglade won't be
anymore supported officially by Maemo. Unfortunately lots of
applications still depend on it, for the most various reasons. And
until GtkBuilder can't fully replace glade, it would be nice to have
the python bindings working, even if they were part of an not official
python package."

If it 's real it s suck !

It's OK, he said a "former" QA guy; he quit that in protest over the disappearing BT icon fiasco!
