Keep taking them pills.

To the OP. The app manager has plenty of ports from linux and some of them are much needed on the N900 to get basic functionality. But the app store that iphone has isn't something the N900 does at all. You need to use the app manager download route and look at the repositories.

iphones and androids get crippled versions of major webpages
Apart from Flash content, you get the pages as is when you use browsers that are not safari.

I'm doing my best to get apps into Extras. Please test my EasyList app and vote thumbs up for it here if you think it's ok.

Like it or not apps make things much more convenient. Use the web browser may be suitable solution for you but on a <4 inch screen it is not for many. I have not used facebook for well over three months apart from doing status updates with facebrick (when it was available). If N900 had a proper facebook app I would be using it everyday to post updates, quickly view photos, check updates, messages etc. I have tried it on the N900 and it was not a pleasant experience. I do not remember anyone complaining when facebook chat became integrated so not sure why people suggest these things are not needed.

At least from the nokia meego leaked video it looked like quite a bit of facebook functionality is going to be integrated into the contacts application so we would no longer need to hear this use the browser talk at least when it comes to facebook.

@Willem

I have voted for your app. Thank you for this fantastic effort!

For everyone else, I would advise keeping your eyes on the applications forums. There has been a rush of new apps and developments from both our 'resident' and new developers such as D-livil, debernardis/saturn, Willem and others. Really top notch stuff from some incredible developers!!

And elsewhere, the genius known as MohammendAG and his band of brothers are making some amazing things happen with their pre alpha apps. I think that what they are doing is as phenomonal as Titan and Lehto did with OC.

I don't see a need to go to the Ovi store...all the action is happening over here and what the developers need are critical testers amongst us end users and fellow developers. So, our best support for all developers, both new and experienced, is to assist with testing, voting and thanking.

I think this will help to get more applications to the Extras. At least it feels like there could be more testers.

I am thinking of getting n900 soon even though I know there are only about 1000 apps for maemo as compared to 100,000 apps for android and 300,000 apps for iphone. While I agree that those other platforms got quite a lot of useless or unimportant apps, yet if we have to count the useful and great apps(no repetition of very similar app), I am sure maemo still lags and its a result of nokia's move towards meego which if wasn't the case then now we would have at least 10 times more apps to choose from. And big guys, while I agree I won't need 100 apps just to chat (yahoo, hotmail, gmail etc) at least 5 would have been great because each one will have their own speciality, some might consume less data, other might be less memory hungry(and hence battery), some might be darn fancy, some might have great video/voice chat functionality and so forth.

I would like to thank a lot and I mean a lot to the developers and users of this talk for doing their best and while it would have been great if there were big software companies in the race to port their existing apps as well as creating new apps for maemo, what this community has done is never less than brilliant. Hats off to you guys.

What convinced me to think of getting n900 is hopefully fully working meego from nokia(although unofficially) or this community and fully working android(I guess its almost there) which will open the gates to get to the ocean of apps.

One more thing is although maemo and meego as well as symbian^3 and other platforms will be sharing qt, I still doubt that most of the developers who write app for symbian^3 and meego will make one for n900 as well. Yet lets see how it goes. Meanwhile I am gonna try to learn basics of nokia qt but big problem here is the slow internet to download 900+mb file from virtually unresumeable link generated from qt.nokia.com. I wish they have let us download it from their ftp.

On ovi store today I found Nokia Panorama, a new app.
Not as good as Morpho, but with a wonderful and usable UI.
