Maps should be downloaded to /home/user/MyDocs/.maps/ if "file storage" in Modrana is set to "files", not "sqlite". To prevent Modrana from downloading tiles over WiFi on the fly, set "Network"->"Only for important data".

For example, there are several programs to download OpenStreetMaps:

Google and Yahoo Maps can be downloaded, too.

Offline routing isn't easy to add. It requires using and analysing vector data, understanding which paths are only for human/automobile/bicycle, one-way only roads, etc. But it may be added later, there is a ticket for it, I heard.
You mentioned programs to download Google map...are you doing that? Is that a good idea, is it too big? And when you download...u place it in /home/user/MyDocs/.maps? Also i notice there are many folders in /home/user/MyDocs/.maps....can i delete them since it looks like they're for offline viewing. Do you constantly have to go in this folder to delete these offline viewing maps if you don't want them because it will accumulate?

I have tried OpenStreeetMap and Yahoo Satellite.

Memory needed depends on:
1. area you want to cover;
2. zoom (amount of details).
It shouldn't depend on source of map. Size of file doesn't depend on author of the file.

When you download, you place the tiles in /home/user/MyDocs/.maps/, yes.

Don't delete them! Use their current structure as guide about how to save the tiles, the folder structure.

These maps are what Modrana uses. Deleting them would make Modrana to download the tiles again (or display no map at all), it's pointless.

If you don't need some part of maps (say, you lived in A, had maps for A, then moved to B, need maps for B), then you can delete some unnecessary part of maps.

But don't delete all the maps unless you want to see grey background instead of screen! If you temporarily don't want to see the maps, just choose "Map"->"None" in Options.

Last question. So basically, you can't use the voice for offline routing. Can you routed at at home with wifi and then bring it to the car, would that work? Assuming you can use your download maps.

Will the route which you got with home WiFi be pronounced by espeak while you are offline? Hmm... It should (if it calculates the distance remaining until a turn offline, without Google, and doesn't attempt to re-route during the way). I don't know. Try it.

Yes, you can use your downloaded maps while you have no internet connection.

It doesn't show up offline because it is not in correct folder.

/home/user/MyDocs/.maps/Google Maps/zoomlevellike16or18/x/y.png

Wow, nice! I'll speed up my work on the separate theme folder + color setting file then.

My wife uses the app when we are on long drives, we have not opened it in a few months. She opened it up on the road while I was driving and said "wow whoever made this app has really made a lot of improvements".

Keep up the good work btw theme did not install...
