In my understanding, there's several ways it can fail, including if you've removed all the PDFs and left the empty directory.

I haven't gotten the package and looked at the scripts, but it sounds like a piece of work, alright.

I always remove the bundled PDFs, and have never had an issue with the documentation package. So, clearly, this isn't the whole story.

Maybe the keyword is "some files"? I did delete all but English user guide... and did end with the endless reboot loop. I never moved or symlinked the .documents directory.

That response has nothing to do with the quote you responded to.

If SSU fails just because the user has removed user files, this is entirely Nokia's fault.
I didn't say Nokia had no responsibility.

Please read and respond more carefully, thanks.

err. actually it does. Maybe not as often though since iphones are locked down so there's not much u can modify without jailbreaking it.

I didn't remove the .documents directory: some of my own document files (e.g. note.note.html from Notes) were in this directory, and I didn't want them to be removed. I just removed PDF files, and perhaps ~sfil_li_folder_user_guides since this directory became empty (but I don't remember). BTW, I thought that these PDF files were just files installed by default, with no relation with the package system (in Debian, documentation is in /usr/share/doc, never in the user's home directory).

Indeed. A bug in iTunes 7.71 broke some iPhones.

Then you shouldn't have responded to my post: you said that users chose to take a risk by doing some actions. I did not. So, why are you talking about risks?

But in some posts, the user is blamed just because SSU failed for no special reasons:

(Really, in my case, this is nothing... except standard use of the tablet of course.)

I looked at the /var/lib/dpkg/info/pre-installed-documentation-rx44.postinst script, and that's true that it should not fail just because the ~sfil_li_folder_user_guides directory is empty (unless this is due to a bug in busybox). I hope maacruz can give more information about:

Note 1: I'm not sure about the real cause of the SSU failure in my case. As the SSU didn't give any error message, it is really difficult to know. But if SSU really fails if ~sfil_li_folder_user_guides is empty, then this is the most probable cause of failure in my case.

Note 2: in case this is important, the MyDocs/.sounds directory was empty when I did the upgrade (but I don't see why this could be a cause of failure).
