It would require numerous devices-- 22 minimum in fact to achieve 95% confidence in results representing the norm.

surely if enough of us have loose / defective usb ports we should all tahe them back to the retailers we brought them from and demand that nokia do something ?? Like a real "fix"

My charging socket has become loose / wiggly after 7 days , charging / connecting up once a day on average , so i dont see how a socket that is like this after a week will last out the 2 year warranty or the contract i signed in for ?

After using phones for over 10 years i dont want some overpaid media hack* no offence meant) telling me i have "abused" my handset

Just my 2p worth on the subject

They know a stress test is not needed because an specialist on this matter could conclude simply as "design flaw". In fact anyone, if look at it carefuly could conclude the same.

Okey. they did not note it. But now is a "current" issue for some and a potential problem for many... Where is the smart move for them so far?

They need say officialy "Warranty will be applied for all users with female usb boken issue". But are they affraid? too much money to handle it? we could report this to any regulatory entity related to them or maybe they want us to hire our personal lawer to sue them?

Why the delay of a formal solution!! I feel not important to them as customer, money prevails...
I knew, when ordered, this was a non-fully finished device if we talk about software and OS updates, but come on, never thought it could break in that easy and silly way.

After previously posting on this thread about the fact although i don't have as of yet or that i know of a faulty usb, i only recieved my phone 4 days ago and am obviously slightly alarmed by what i am reading. It's far to expensive a phone to risk being stuck with faulty if nokia won't repair this device in the event it broke.
So i spoke to vodafone about it and was reassured all was fine and they would honour the warranty should this happen. So i happily tottered along thinking fab i'll keep my phone when i read another post on the vodafone forum where the moderator is effectively saying:

Hello everyone,

Thanks for your post on the eForum.

The discussion here seems to be arounf the fact that some N900's could be deemed to be BER.

Please see the below points around our stance on Vodafone warranty:

All devices sold by Vodafone are covered by a 2 year warranty.
If you have owned the device for 28 days or less please return to point of sale for a replacement.
If you have owned the device for more than 28 days please follow the advice on the Vodafone Repairs thread for more information.
If your device was purchased through a third party you will need to speak to the seller for further instructions on their repair process.

It’s really important for us to stress that sometimes, your phone may not be covered by your manufacturer’s warranty, and in these circumstances we’re not always able to repair your phone. Below are two very specific examples of what won’t be covered:

Liquid / Moisture Damage
Moisture can corrode internal parts, but sometimes the source of the damage isn’t as obvious as rain or dropping your phone in water. Steam from the kettle, bath or shower, or changes in climate are all common causes to be aware of. Not all damage of this kind is visible and can only be spotted when we inspect the phone for repair.

Physical / Accidental Damage
If your phone has been physically damaged, even accidentally, it’s not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. In this case, we won’t be able to repair your phone.


Well surely judging by nokia's stance that its not faulty it;s users who are causing the damage that means it won't be covered even by vodafone's warranty shown above? Hence i was given the wrong information?

The essential point comes down to how "Physical / Accidental Damage" is defined. Uusally that means something caused by dropping the phone, etc. I do not believe this issue should be lumped into that category, as it is actually a mechanical failure. I will continue fighting for that.

its an easy out for nokia i would guess , oh you physically damaged your handset so we wont fix it, same for any source you get the phone from i would imagine, hence me asking if people were willing to stand up and say its not our fault you cheap out on the design and cause immesurable grief if / once the faults really start to roll in over time , which i imagine they will ?

I bow to the technical knowledge of people of the likes of texrat , who can see this from an engineering standpoint , not like my emotive one of this is going wrong already and its really annoying me !

We just have to see how this plays out i guess

That's the problem tho, nokia are going to try to lump it in to any catagory they can to get out of it.

I have a few days left and i just don't know what to do, do i keep the phone which i love or do i return it while i can and find something else like the htc touch pro 2 :0( which from what i have read on the reviews is not as good as the n900.

if you were in my position knowing what you know would you return the device now rather then wait for a fault to occur?
