I think souce code was never released, so noone else can continue the project if the original author has vanished.

btw, would it be usefull to have one thread of stolen N900s here somewhere? List of IMEIs, WLAN and BT MACs and some special identification notes.

My N900 got stolen in Lisboa 2 weeks ago. I wonder if Nokia can block updates to that IMEI when PR1.3 comes, because I was forced to register to Ovi when PR1.2 was installed?

IMO, I Am Here was doing it wrong. Part of the problem was password and intercepting SMSs. What the N900 should do is log wifi points, GPS every 10 minutes, etc. When an internet link is detected, spill the beans.

That way, there's a better chance of tracking the phone. Even if you don't know where it is now, you know it goes to work every day and where which, IMO, is more important.

Also, it can be used for statistics when not an anti-theft measure. I'd love such an app.

I finally managed to get rid of it...

When it installed the process was not running and refused to run, so I couldn't enable the uninstall string.

Following the instructions on here using rootsh corrupted my application catalogs and killed app manager...

However Restoring a backup in the N900 (I make them daily) reinstated all my apps and settings except Imhere-3.0 which was nowhere to be seen and everything runs fine now (I hope this help at least a few people).

This app should be removed, since it does not work anymore.

Some of the information collected are forwarded through a mail account owned by the author.

This alone should make you not want to install it.

Hi people, I wonder if someone can help me uninstall this app? I have used it before and worked without a problem. but I'm about to go on holiday and wanted to try it before I went so if it gets stolen or lost I can get a friend to SMS it. I tried it with an SMS to activate it and it did nothing. Then I tried the config and that didn't work either!

So then I tried to uninstall it in app manager and failed saying "Unable to uninstall "I am here"" I tried downloading it and reinstalling it but it wouldn't install

so then I tried the apt-get uninstall command, that failed

tried the apt-get --purge uninstall command, that failed

tried the instructions at this link

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=393

and mine comes back with the error code 1 (IE they don't exist)

is there a way of uninstalling it? surely there's a forceful way of removing it under root (as root should superceed any file protection on the OS?)

Hope someone can help!

Thanks

Flegg

You can reset the setting by sending a self message to your phone with the reset password. The password you first set it up at the start of the wizard. I wouldn't have a clue what you've entered. If you forgot then you can't uninstall it. The only way to get rid of it is to reflash. The problem with this app is it's only work once and if you tested it once then it won't work again. The developer of this app is gone somewhere now. He hasn't been responding to the feed back at all. I guess he is gone.

Thanks for the tip, when yo say a self message, do you mean a message to myself from the same phone? or from another phone to mine (like you would when you want to activate tracking)

do you just send the password? or something together with it like reset<password>

UPDATE: Just tried sending my password and config again to my phone via sms and nothing, no config window has come up or anything so I think it's pantsified.

is there any way of backing up all my SMS and apps installed so I can restore them all after flashing (except i am here?) don't really want to lose anything this close to going away

Code:
root
killall imhere-0.3

rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/imhere-0.3.prerm
rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/imhere-0.3.postinst
dpkg --purge --force-remove-reinstreq imhere-0.3

should work. At least that's how I got rid of it, thanks to mauron85

Yeah that's what I tried. The killall said there were no instances. The RM commands came back with errors saying they don't exist a d the dpkg came back with an error
