Flashing the kernel and initfs isn't a necessary step. It'll boot just fine without them. I went ahead and deleted the initfs image (per qwerty12's suggestion) and just flashed the kernel after I had booted Diablo. Works fine.

Maybe I'm having problems because I'm trying this on an N810, but I tried deleting the initfs and running flash-and-reboot, and I still can't get Diablo to boot - same as if I don't run flash-and-reboot at all. The NOKIA logo appears with the little R&D-mode icon below it, but none of the R&D info (initfs version, etc.) appears, and after 30 seconds the screen just goes dark.
I'll try with a stripped Diablo initfs later tonight, I guess.

gnuite, it has to be done on desktop.
I used mtd2ram method (takes a LOT of ram) to mount image. mtd2block method may work though.
