But second, (I haven't read all the comments here, so I dont know, if the problem was posted before) - I try to tell you the problem:

I connect the phone with my car. There I can go to the phonebook, by clicking on "ABC", "DEF", "GHI" "JKL" ..., and so on, I can search the names.
Since I installed your program, the car takes the list in your application, which is - I think - not sorted.

Let me explane by an example:

Before installing your app:
I search for a name - like "Lisa", so I click on the button "JKL" and go manually down through all names beginning with "J", than "K" and than "L" - until "Lisa" is there. - Push the button - call starts.

Now since the installed app:
There is a new list under the existing list starting under the "Z" with names unsorted. Not all names of the phone book, but many.
(Its the same list which is shown in your app).
So I start searching again for a name - like "Lisa". I click on the button "JKL" and the cursor jumps not to the list which is in the ABC stile but goes directly to the new list beginning under the Z.
So I had to go manually all the way up through all the names until the "L's"- this is not handy. In the car there is not so much time to go through all the (in my case 350or more) contacts.

I tryed to fix this by uninstalling the app, but the list still exists.

So there are a few questions:

1) Is the app editing (and reformating) the existing phone-contactslist (forever) so the car cannot read it right anymore?
2) Is there a way to sort the names in ABC stile? (I think this fix all the problems)
3) Why are there some names not sorted?
4) How can I get my old list back (if point 2 cannot be made, and I had to uninstall the app forever)

sincerely,
Stein
Stein,
MyContacts does not change ANYTHING of your address book. It has only READ access to your address book and any other information (e.g. groups, ring tones, ...) is stored on a separate file exclusively for MyContacts.

In short there is no way MyContacts was responsible for any changes on the standard "contacts" application.

On the MyContacts application sometimes you will see the behavior you are describing because of how Qt Mobility Contacts sorts contacts without "first" and "last" name (just nickname). You probably would see the same behavior on any other application that uses the same library and doesn't "re-sort" the names.

The fact that MyContacts show the names like this doesn't mean that it changed how your contacts are stored or displayed on any other application.

I am not sure how your "car" access the phones. Have you installed any application for this? How did you setup? Does it use bluetooth?

@fcrochik: qgvdial is ready for texts from MyContacts.

Multiple destinations supported. If you don't want to bother with getting user text data, I support popping up my own text entry box.

@fcrochik:

Hey, thanks for your reply.

I use this "http://wiki.maemo.org/Bluetooth_PBAP" app, and my car is a vauxhall - insignia. It goes directly in via bluetooth.

I use this since 14 days. Before there was no way to access the phone via car. (I used a other phone for this, which was only in the car).

I tested this app for 2 days and everything worked fine. I couldn't find any problem. - Do you think this app makes the trouble?

Than I found your app and installed it.
3 days later I tryed call someone in my car and noticed the problem.

So if I ad a lastname to the nicknames, than the problem with the sorting is away?

It is very hard for me to guess without knowing how the application was developed. What I can tell is that any application that used the Qt Mobility Contacts module on the maemo5 w/o re-sorting the results will probably present the same issue.

I know that if you edit the contacts and add first and last name (just one of them maybe enough) it should fix the problem on mycontacts. You can edit one contact and just try on mycontacts (make sure to select reload on the menu).

I really appreciate the offer but don't quite know what to answer. I have never received a donation for any of these applications.

I am glad you like the application. Please spread the good word. The downloads page may be a good place for some kind words. Also, please make sure to test my other applications and let me know your feedback.

I would suggest you (and everybody else interested on this feature) to contact your favorite SMS application's developer and suggest my approach. I will gladly work with any of them to make it happen.
To my knowledge, development of FastSMS has ceased, I tried to contact the developer and didn't get any response. The current version of FastSMS is also not very easy to use.
VertSMS has no T9-replacement, which makes it really not a good option for me. I haven't found any other apps for writing sms on the device - please tell me if you happen to know about them.

I don't know what a DBus signal is, but package overview of VertSMS says that SMS sending was changed from DBus to Qtmobility. Don't know if that might have any impact on your development plans...

qgvdial supports sending SMS across DBus. I'm waiting for Felipe to make Mycontacts use it.

I am not sure when I will get a chance to get to it but would like suggestions on where would be a good place to have the option to send sms to one of the groups.

My idea was to expand the groups beyond the 5 we have today and create a groups view on mycontacts application. comments?
