Hi everyone,

As you may know, the main prizes of this competition are flights and accomodation to the next MeeGo Conference. We all thought that the next MeeGo Conference will take place in November this year.
This won't be the case.
The next MeeGo Conference will be held in mid-January next year.
The prizes won't dissappear of course.
Maybe there will be another big MeeGo event in November, but nothing as official as the MeeGo Conference. We hope to be able to offer you the choice between the event in November and the MeeGo Conference in mid-January so you would be able to decide to which of those events you want to go. As long as we're not sure if there will be a MeeGo event in November, the flights and accomodation will refer to the MeeGo Conference in mid-January only.

So.. do we have a decision on a deadline yet, zehjotkah? If there's an extension to the competition or a category it'll be best to communicate asap to those affected as (currently) this is the last weekend and Sunday is the end date.

"This Sunday we dine on apps!"

When is the deadline? There's a date but no time. Is it 31st 00:00:00 or 1st 00:00:00?

yes, check the voting thread.
try to not submit your app on 00:00:00...
submit it on the 31st and everything will be fine.

Thanks! Which time zone?
I'm working hard to keep the deadline!

This is my last submission for our small competition: TcpIpKeyboard

This application allows you to share the Keyboard from your Desktop PC with your Mobile. (N9, ExoPC or N900)
So I wonder if it is okay to join the Desktop categorie with this application?

Is this okay? Or should I try to sort it into a other categorie? If yes, which one?

Erm.. this is the official announcement of the extension?

I mean, this needs to be a lot more prominent. It really should be spelt out clearly on this thread, there's no mention of it on the MeeGo forum thread, nor twitter, and the competition wiki is still showing the old dates. In fact the competition wiki is spelling out that anything submitted after July 31 would be ineligible to take part..

The competition runs from 01 April 2011 to 31 July 2011. After that no further submissions will be accepted and the winners will be elected by the community.
A week is very little time to develop anything, for the extension to have any chance to bring more applications it needs to be publicised. Also, currently, the extension is illegal with the competition rules so obviously these need updating. And before tomorrow night when the competition ends.

As next steps, can I suggest the following as a matter of urgency:
  • Update the wiki timeline and competition rules to enable the extension to be valid
  • Contact the current 'Desktop' category participants to inform them of the change, it's good manners
  • Publicise the timeline change on the discussion thread, MeeGo forum, and twitter accounts
  • Find and link to resources on developing desktop and widget applications, and make them available so developers can quickly find them

I'd have made a start on the changes only I'm not 100% sure what is happening with the deadline and I don't want to overstep the mark, I think there's still a little confusion that needs cleared up. It's better to be too clear than not clear enough

Well considering u named it TcpipKeyboard, after the network communication protocol TCP/IP, you kinda made it a natural fit for the "Network and Communication" category

Yeah i assume we have an extra week then? Too bad I just discovered yesterday that Nokia made the Publish & Subscribe part of Qt Mobility totally useless in Harmattan, forcing me to re-write a huge amount of code. Can we do a Windows Phone competition next year? LOL.

I just tried to help filling up this neglected categorie.

I guess since MeeGo doesn't provide Widgets and has no Desktop this categorie is because of the soon useless code very unpopular. I have a idea for a MeeGo Tablet Panel I would like to develop later this year. But currently I have to much projects in the pipeline to start a additional... and perhaps someone would classify it anyway as a system tool than a desktop panel.

Thank you for the answer.
I don't want to submit it at 00:00:00. Sometimes I overcomplicate thins. Basically I wanted to ask if we can submit our apps on 31st, to which you answered.
Time zones complicate things a little bit, if the deadline is 31st... in America, I have a little more time as I'm from Europe.

If you need this jutty after several months of competition... good luck!

Sorry, I couldn't resist - but it sounds a little bit funny. And I got myself currently a little bit more time and trying hard to get my newest projects in shape before the deadline.
And extend it a single week wouldn't change it for myself... I got time until 4 o'clock today. So my own deadline ends a lot earlier than your's !

As Zehjotkah is currently realizing: Time is a limited factor and nobody has endless time. Perhaps we could rename it to "Time management contest 2011!"
