Too many scams out there. Yesterday I got a call from someone trying to pull the CLSID scam on me.

i actually got skimmed two years ago...
Money stuck in the in the slot, called the cops.
But those f*****s "convinced" me about it surely beeing a mechanical fault and the bank will remove the money next morning.
When i tried to pick up the trap with my knife they held me away and thought i'm nuts...
Next day bank called me and couldn't believe the cops where that stupid...
But imho i am the stupid, shouldn't have called the cops.
lesson learned.
got my money back 3 month later.

Hmmm. Did you know that recording phone calls is against the law in the state of Maryland (where I live) unless you alert the person you are recording ahead of time. Wonder if that applies to recording scam artists?

I know that these rules don't apply to all countries in the world. I couldn't find a good voicemail server for the N900 to fix that legal aspect. Voice calls recording is a much better option then using a pencil on a piece of paper sometimes.

Pretty nice.... I had to google up CLSID scam and spent about half an hour laughing at how people have scammed the scammers

I wonder if they would notice if I actually let them "take over" a virtual instance of windoze. I actually have an old WINXP virtual machine as I needed to do some porting-to-linux stuff 2 years back.
(had not even booted that since, but now I checked that it indeed has CLSID{88DCA60-FC0A-11CF-8F0F-00C04FD7D062} present...)

How long would it take them to realize that they were operating inside a VM? (I gather the technical ability of said scammers is probably pretty thin...)

Another thought occured; As I am not really that knowledgeable in all matters windoze, is it possible to reach back through the same remote channel they coaxe unsuspecting victims to open to their computer?
It would be a fun trick to get at their system and install a nice fat back door there when the stooges are busy "cleaning" your honeytrap computer

As far as I know in Finland the same thing applies to phone calls as to any private communication; you are allowed to record it or do whatever you please if you are participant in the said call (meaning; not eavesdropping on call between some other parties)

There are however rules concerning the publishing of your call logs, so it is fine as long as you keep it to yourself.

Indeed, I met Dillon, Carol and other Jolla guys at last year's MWC and played tablet and ordered mine. Until now it's almost a year I never heard again from any of them (not even for refund - I have ordered one via online store, which should receive refund notification "soon")

That is indeed a scam. Contact the scamers immediately!
