Where is this found, I may include it in final if it looks nice, can you please point out where this package is obtained.

The default theme in penguinbait's tarball doesn't appeal to me, but that's not a big problem.

Yeah, you can easily change this. If you have a theme you like save it and send it to me, I can include it in the final version.

I noticed that the connection icon is invisible but clickable don't know what happend.
I am not sure what you mean? Can you show a screenshot? The sceenshot tool is in KDE.

I'm now transfering my boot mmc (4 Gig) to a 2 Gig card which will then be inserted into the internal slot and load my 4 Gig card with music (i'm going to hungray this evening)

So as small conclusion: KDE is very slow

Curious do you have swap partition or file and what size is it? When you say its slow, I would like a little clarification, I amjust curious what you mean. It is definetly slower than a desktop, and all the apps were written to run on much faster processors, no question. But its works very well, you might just have to wait 6 seconds for an app to startup, but then there is no slowness?

but if you receive a doc, ppt, xls file via e-mail you can now take a look at it on the n800 and that's something very good!

Well I have not done a lot of testing, but I dont think Koffice wil open MS xls doc or ppt files. There is a way to create Koffice versions of these and csv and rtf and doc, not MS doc is supported?

Did you use kmail? Did you print anything?

I love the solitaire (Patience) game. I wish this version could be ported to 0s2008.

Overall I like the look and feel (yes, it is slower than OS2008 but not unusable).

I do agree that some of the apps do waste space when compared to hildonized apps.
Well there is no question its much bigger, but it was not optimized for space, and provides a full OS suite of applications, where Noia OS only provides a small base. I literally compiled and installed over 100 packages in order to get KDE working, so its kinda big

I have run into some challenges, some of it is because I am not familiar with KDE. I have tried to load a very simple excel spread sheet into kspread and kspread just stops responding. I let it sit all night trying to do the load and it did not complete. World clock loads but the image does not display. I can't figure out how to get Spider in Patience to deal out more cards once play has started. On some screens I can not get to the OK button and I have not found a way to move the window up so I can get to it.

Overall, great job!

Have you printed anything yet? Also as in other post I do not think MS file formats are supported.

Well theyre supposed to be here, having some problems uploading. I'll get them up after some sleep.

I know I am not the only one who is anxious to hear how its running on the n810. I am sure it runs the same, I am curious how the speed of the internal 2GB compares to external? Is there any problems with keyboard input from the hardware keyboard? Any odd behavior?

It's running pretty good on the n810, I havent had much time to mess around with it yet. The only big problem I had so far was it locked up when I tried to load a web page in konqueror and I had to remove the battery to turn it off and back on. The keyboard was working in kword, to use the shift and Fn you have to hold them down while selecting the key you want (normally with the n810 you dont have to hold them down). However the Fn key does not work in konqueror and the on screen keyboard doesnt have any numbers on it (just [] where they should be) so I'm unable to use numbers in konqueror. It doesnt take that long to start up KDE and everything runs at a pretty good speed (took about 14 seconds for kword to load). I've also found that its easier to use the arrow keys to navigate some of the menus. It helps a lot to hide the panel at the bottom to see the entire window thats open since the screen is so small. My roommate is actually getting a n800 now because I got KDE working on my n810 and he liked how it ran. I dont know how you guys do it without the slide out keyboard its really nice and speeds typing up a lot (for me atleast).

Also I got the screen shots up on my previous post.

I also wanted to say thank you to penguinbait for putting KDE together and to fanoush who got initfs flasher working for the n810 and 2008OS ver 19 so quickly. KDE just increased the usefullness of the n810 for me by so much.

Well the Konqueror crashing, I am guessing it was on this site? ITT?

I am further guessing you do not have a swap partition or a swap file.

ITT will crash KDE without a swap file, that front page has just too much going one. If you open like google news or other pages it does not seem to have any issue.

The swap file will help overall performance when running KDE. I wish it had like 512MB RAM, I think we would be cruising pretty good.

Please let me know if I am wrong with my guessing?

Also, I agree, the menus are best navigated by the DPAD.

Yeah it was when I loaded this web site that it crashed, google and gmail worked fine. I just cant sign into gmail because I cant use numbers in konqueror lol. And I dont have a swap partition or swap file.

Edit: well now the Fn key is working in konqueror, I didnt change anything so not sure why it started working.

Hey everyone,

I am new to this forum and new to the IT community in general. I just purchased an n800 a couple days ago. I have been following this forum for awhile (before I even got the tablet) and was anxious to try KDE on my n800. I am a web designer and excited by the fact that I could run a graphics application like Krita on my tablet. This makes the tablet like a portable office for me. I have never used Linux before so getting KDE up and running was a challenge but I just got it to work!

Again, having never used Linux before (or KDE) this has all been a very new experience. I have to commend Penguinbait on such an amazing job. If a noob like me can get KDE up and running, I think anyone can. As I continue to use KDE, I will keep posting comments here, but I wanted to again thank Penguinbait for making this possible.

I just had a quick question about KDE on the n800/810, do you know if theres any way to view the battery life of the device in KDE?

I do not have a way to check the battery life at this time. If someone has ideas I am all ears? We might be able to get a KDE developer onboard????
