looks like one of maemo launcher processes has maxed out the cpu. A question. Is there a way of unmuting the audio from the commandline ? Does anyone know if the applet settings are stored through gconf or perhaps somewhere else ?

Ok, device starts fine when booted from flash, so it seems like there is a bricked config file somwhere. Could you let me know which actual files are modified by your applet? Config in particular.

I decided to uninstall since my full battery got drained last night in under 6 hours with just xchat on. so need to try to find out what is causing now. now I noticed that the original volume applet crashes the desktop briefly for me too when trying to mute. it also created a blank xchat window that cannot be closed

so if anyone knows how to fix the original applet back plz info appreciated, thanks!

oh and really like the idea behind this app but seems to need a little more work to make it stable..

ok this crashing problem fixed for me now. either on its self or because I updated the operating system packages in red pill mode

I am still struggling, I will try uninstalling sound applet and reinstalling it again. I hope that is going to fix the problem but if not, then a reflash is the only other option (I would rather not do that, it's a pain to reconfigure everything from the scratch)

It's still borked, but I have possibly tracked down the culprits. I have run the package updates on the flash side and the following pkgs were pulled in by the update

farsight0.1-2-rtp farsight0.1-2-transmitter-libjingle farsight0.1-2-transmitter-rawudp farsight0.1-common libaccounts-glade
libfarsight-0.1-2 libgalago-common libmissioncontrol-client0 libmissioncontrol-server1 libogg0 libosso-rtcom-accounts0 libosso-rtcom0
libtelepathy2 libtheora0 map omweather
After the updates and the reboot (which apparently is necessary), the flash boots into a white screen and the story repeats. Strange. Those updates came from official nokia repository, I could not find any bug reports regarding those.

In response to "What config files does this applet monitor?" the answer is... None. It maintains no configuration in file form at this time. All the applet does is change one gconf value (for sound) and run the dsmetest program. It also does not install anything over the original applet files (the ONLY installed files are the icons, a .desktop file, and a .so) so I have NO idea why the original backlight/sound applets wouldn't work. Mine work fine, and I can even use all of them at the same time with no conflicts. Can multiple people confirm this problem?

Jaywink: If you were running xchat, that means that A) you had wireless on, and B) xchat was keeping your CPU and wireless connection awake... I'm surprised you got a full 6 hours. I'm not sure why that would have anything to do with Advanced Backlight. If you could give me more information, or test again without xchat running, and with/without my applet, that data would be very useful.

yeah most propably it has nothing to do with your applet - I was just turning off/uninstalling one at a time stuff that I had added

but from my experience xchat doesn't consume all that much since I've survived many a full nights with the chat on, wireless on and still some battery left the next day

Cool little app, however did I miss something? I now have that icon and the original sound and brightness icons up there...

You have to turn off the original sound and brightness icons. Should be under settings > control panel > panels then uncheck the boxes there.
