Yep happened to me the first time I used it. I'm a little gun shy to use it again....

I just tried it again, and the same thing happened. As I'm not too fond of rebooting, let alone removing the battery, I think I'll pass on using it until a new version is out.

Audio out of sync with video. I entered a bug in the bug tracker on Garage, but I don't know if anyone checks it.

I was able to upload a video directly to YouTube, and it worked great except for the sync issue which pretty muuch makes the app useless to me.

Yes, to the point where I don't even bother with these - camera or video. It's a nice thought to have a camera, but I haven't been able to get camera or videocamera to work consistently. Camera always freezes the tablet.

I use the free MediaCoder to reencode the videos I make using Video Camera (I'm presently using the Bora/OS 2007 version on a N800).

Not only does it sync the sound (maybe a loss of one second over one minute) but reduces the file size by a third.

Here is an example 1 minute 38 seconds video I just made (originally 2.62 MB, now 886 KB) to see how the sound syncs, and a screenshot of my settings in MediaCoder.

You guys are right. I just tried reinstalling camera and now I have both. I have no idea why videocamera wasn't installing before. I removed camera and it installed fine.

To make videocamera launch from popping the N800 camera...
  • Install gconfedit (Equivalent to registry editor in windows, a utility no GNOME install should be without.)
  • Make sure /system/osso/af/launch-on-camera is checked.
  • Set /system/osso/af/on-camera-out:
It should have two entries; these are for launching the internet call, and I'm posting them as a reference in case anyone wants to go back...
    • org.freedesktop.Telepathy.StreamEngine
    • com.nokia.osso_voip_ui
    Remove them, and replace with
    • com.nokia.videocamera_service

I really recommend that you install gconfedit, but here's a script to accomplish the same, if you don't want to:

Code:
#!/bin/sh
gconftool -s /system/osso/af/launch-on-camera --type bool true
gconftool -s /system/osso/af/on-camera-out --type list --list-type string '[com.nokia.videocamera_service]'

Interesting....for me, Benson's script worked as far as loading the Videocamera app when popping out the camera. However, after I tried to close down the application, it hung the tablet. I pulled the battery and rebooted. When I did, the Video Call application opened when I opened the camera.

Is this script only temporary (until you reboot the N800)?
