Jonny, looks like you missed the kernel update. Or maybe just didn't reboot after flashing the kernel, if you used kernel_flasher.

Arjun, as Faheem alluded, extract kernel_flasher into main memory, not the mmc. The mmcs have a vfat fs, which does not permit executable permissions.

In my earlier post, there's a zip. Extract the xrandr file from the zip, and place it as /usr/bin/xrandr, with permissions 755.
I just updated the script in that zip (to the version in this post), so extract it also, place it somewhere, and chmod 755 it, too.
Then invocation as in that post is correct

If you want to use itT forums in portrait mode, toss this into ~/.mozilla/microb/chrome/userContent.css:
Code:
@-moz-document url-prefix("http://www.internettablettalk.com/"),
url-prefix("http://internettablettalk.com") {
  alt1 { font-size: 120% !IMPORTANT; }
  a:hover { color: #004 !IMPORTANT;}
  div#header .hd4 { padding: 0 !IMPORTANT;}
  div#header div#header-body { height: 44px !IMPORTANT; background: #C8C8C8 !IMPORTANT;}
  img#home { top: 3px !IMPORTANT; left: 13px !IMPORTANT;}
  img#forum { top: 2px !IMPORTANT; left: 85px !IMPORTANT;}
  img#wiki { top: 2px !IMPORTANT; left: 163px !IMPORTANT;}
  img#sw { top: 3px !IMPORTANT; left: 231px !IMPORTANT;}
  img#gallery { top: 2px !IMPORTANT; left: 312px !IMPORTANT;}
  img#contact { top: 5px !IMPORTANT; left: 385px !IMPORTANT;}
  .advert { display: none !IMPORTANT;}
  div#top-padding { padding: 0 !IMPORTANT;}
  div#bot-padding { padding: 0 !IMPORTANT;}
  div#topbox .tb7 { padding: 0 !IMPORTANT;}
  div#mainbox .mb7 { padding: 0 !IMPORTANT;}
  div#footbox .fb7 { padding: 0 !IMPORTANT;}
  td#mainbody div.padding { padding: 0 !IMPORTANT;}
  div.page>div { padding: 0 !IMPORTANT;}
  .pagenav .smallfont { font-size: 200% !IMPORTANT;}
  .pagenav td { width: 30px !IMPORTANT; height: 30px !IMPORTANT; text-align: center !IMPORTANT; white-space: nowrap !IMPORTANT;}
  .pagenav td a { display: table-cell !IMPORTANT; width: 30px !IMPORTANT; height: 100% !IMPORTANT; vertical-align: center !IMPORTANT; text-align: center !IMPORTANT;}
  span.navbar { font-size: 50% !IMPORTANT; }
  td.vbmenu_control { height: 30px !IMPORTANT; }
  td.vbmenu_control a { display: table-cell; height: 30px !IMPORTANT; font-size: 80% !IMPORTANT; vertical-align: center !IMPORTANT; }
  td.vbmenu_control img { display: none !IMPORTANT; }
  div.wrapper { margin: 0 !IMPORTANT;}
  .button { font-size: 200% !IMPORTANT;}
}
Everything fits, except the odd wide code post (I should fix that) and search results where the last post was made by someone with a long username.

And a screenie, though it looks like different screen-capture tools are needed...

Thanks for all who worked to make this happen. And thanks to qwerty12 from this thread for walking us through the steps of flashing the kernel.

I followed these steps, and installed the file from http://sse2.net/rotate/

After a reboot, the rotate applet shows up in Control Panel>Panels>Status bar. But even when it is the only one checked, it will not show up in the status bar. Yet there does seem to be a *space* for it in the status bar. Did I miss a step?

Thanks very much.

Hi, just a warning, at least for me the -randr01 xserver package name breaks dependencies and prevents installation of further packages, then it looks like this (when installing random package)

Code:
/home/user # apt-get install screen
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  osso-software-version: Depends: xserver-xomap (= 1:1.3.99.0~git20070321-0osso20074202) but 1:1.3.99.0~git20070321-0osso20074202-randr01 is to be installed
  screen: Depends: libncursesw5 (>= 5.4-1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
It is same problem like here http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=16244. Anyone can verify it is not just me?

Hacking /var/lib/dpkg/status by hand solves the problem for me but if someone verifies the problem too, it needs fixing and reinstallation of xserver package.

I experienced that symptom when I had failed to get one of the packages required. It was the Xomap package, IIRC.

@fanoush

Not me. My N800 is working fine with rotate xserver installed and packages are able to be installed.

Thanks for the reply Benson.

I wonder if you can suggest how I might get the Xomap package. The rotation support page says that you must "still update Xomap manually," but the link just goes to the page describing Red Pill mode. I assume you must be in this mode to do the update, but this doesn't describe how to do the actual updating.

I fear I'm still at the stage where instructions like the ones qwerty12 gave are extremely useful.

Thanks again to all.

I used dpkg to install but,

Set your IT into red pill mode.

Save this deb to your device:
http://sse2.net/rotate/pool/main/x/x...dr01_armel.deb

In application manager, go to menu, file, install from file and choose the location of where you saved the deb.

Make sure you are in redpill mode & if in the rare event fails, DO NOT RESTART.

Man qwerty12, I wish could add ten Thanks to your stash!

I followed your instructions, and all seemed to go well. I am still in red pill mode and have not restarted. If all *seems* OK, should I now restart to see if applet appears?
