I'm sure everyone and especially old timers are tired of reading these threads, but I'll drop this golden nugget for ya'll:

The same complaints have been repeated for YEARS now. Customers come and customers go, mentioning the same issues... Experienced tableteers may say "Good Riddance, Do some research before you buy!" but this seems to be the place where a typical user would complain... not Bugzilla (Thats for you GeneralA..)

Nokia doesn't advertise it as a work in progress... you have to dig in forums or visit Jaaksi's blog to find that out. Rather than argue that these people are wrong, maybe the enthusiasts should drive and reference these complaints to the right channels for them. If you prefer this platform to be exclusive and obscure, then I understand... but if you want it to be successful and progress at more than a glaciers pace (and its moving at a glaciers pace), then we should be supportive of these posts and somehow convey them to the right people.

Would you please provide an example of a commercial project with a public roadmap of the type you desire? I've seen such requests many times on user lists for hardware and software I use, but I've never seen a company willing share. I'm interested to see a company that's not afraid their competitors will eat their lunch given such information.

Thanks sherifnix. I would also like to point out that it's not just linux noobs like salomc ( no offense intended ) but I am a linux professional and a two time NIT buyer. I have been using linux since I paper hole punched low density floppy disks to get a floppy distro back in the 1993 timeframe and have used it ever since. I have more than a decade of professional experience with Linux as well. I have also struggled on and off using linux as a primary desktop system with moderate success.

My post was not to ***** about what the NIT was missing, or comparing it with shiny new product of the week, but to note specific flaws with the firmware that should have never made it into a shipping product.

Sometimes software development is two steps forward, one step back, but overall, Modest is improving. By the time it's out of beta, it should be a solid product.
Some of you may remember (or did know) that Modest was already in the works last summer to be included with the latest OS2007, but it was too buggy at that time (even for Nokia developers! ) and old osso-email was put back for time being. Now with Diablo, Modest is going to make first official debut.

Thanks brontide and sherifnix. In fact, i'm a physician eheh. I bough my IT because my brother works on Nokia, and in fact participated in the making of these devices as a Linux programmer (I don't know anything about this heh). This is the cause I like this device so much

Buy!

Intel for one. I can tell you all of the major chips they will release this year. I may not know the price or some smaller details, but I can assure you the major points I will be right on.

Nokia is championing the "open" NIT's. They basically rely on the community to take up the slack of a broken firmware, but are unwilling to even give substantive information on their next release.

Intel isn't a good example. They sell their stuff to developers and OEMs, and, so, have their roadmap open. Nokia, on the other hand, sells their stuff directly to consumers, and an open roadmap in a consumer-targeting company is practically unheard of.

Wow... that sounds like exactly the appropriate action!

Now... where have I seen it acknowledged before...
