i went ahead and did a dump of my SE Z710 using sdptool (why its not included on the tablet i have no idea about), and found these uses for 9rfcomm channels...

1: obex syncml client
2: dial-up networking
3: serial port
4: hands-free gateway
5: headset gateway
6: obex object push
7: obex file transfer
8: obex irmc sync server
9: obex phonebook server

ymmv, but its starting to smell as if those are standardized somewhere. but i could not find it after some quick googling so...

is there any way I can use the dialpad during a connected call to send tones (responses) to my phone? - I often have to respond to automated phone menus and I'm trying to use phonelink w/my n810 without having to touch my cell phone.

Sorry but no.
The NIT is not a sound device for your phone with gnokii and phonelink.
You'll have to wait for the proper 2 way support of Bluetooth HSP/A2DP/AVRCP for that !

I have a Sony Ericsson TM506, and N800. I can send/receive message with no problem but when I try to make a call from my N800, I got a message "Can't dial the phone:The given memory location is invalid." Any idea?

What are your gnokii-gconf settings ?
Did you check the gnokii.org site for compatibility with your phone ?

I use phone model -> AT , rfcomm channels 2. It is a new phone, so not that many people use it with phonelink yet. Just hope someone have an idea.

fredoll,
I am indebted to you for giving my tablet new life in my continuously changing device repertoire! My tablet has been mostly unused because I kept planning on compromising with a smartphone as its replacement. But the compromise would have been too great at this point. And there are still a few advantages to keeping phone and internet device separate.

A few questions/suggestions for future development:
Would it be possible for Phonelink to pull text messages from the phone for storage & display on the tablet?
Are MMS features in the works?
Have you considered converting Phonelink into an applet and/or desktop widget?
