I guess my expectations were tracking the initial (current?) claim that this is beta quality.

Since I'm not a techy, I relied on the wikipedia article to understand what "beta" means:

A "beta version" is the first version released outside the organization or community that develops the software
I also (perhaps wrongly) thought that a "beta" quality browser would mean that it would at least not crash immediately on skweezer'd sites.

Anyway, I'd hate to give the impression that I'm trashing the developer. Given how grateful I've been for tear and to Bundyo, I might come of as a someone who would still a kidney for a friend, only to reveal myself as someone who would still my friend's kidney, if he weren't my friend. That's no friend at all.

I'm happy there is another developer of a browser on the scene. I just wish they'd work harder to give us accurate expectations. Bundyo has been amazingly frank in that regard, quite in contrast to Digia's claims.

Actually digia@web was announced 21.10.2008 http://www.digia.com/C2256FEF0043E9C...cument&lang=en

So this is an early example of cross platform qt4.5 development for mobile devices (maemo and symbian). I hope that this is the future.

Browser works well for me. Other than some bad key bindings, and memory usage being a tad high, it works well. No crashes either.

Hmmm, then I wonder why it crashes so frequently on my end.

Guess a good maxim to live by is: assume something's wrong on my end!

Don't know. The only thing I did differently was run it from the Terminal, because I thought it was going to crash (and I wanted to catch errors). Been browsing for 20 minutes with no crashes.

quick test reveals that it crashes automagically just by waiting couple of minutes. Classic symptom of not handling dbus.

Removing X-Osso-Service=com.digia.digiaatweb from /usr/share/applications/hildon/digiaatweb.desktop fixes this problem.

edit: version 2.0.1 seems to have fixed this issue

After the fix it hasn't crashed even once.

Now that I can actually use it, it's not bad at all. It seems pretty slow and requires a lot of memory. Lack of any kind of progress bar makes it feel even more sluggish.

Pressing menu key twice gives you access to settings
