No I didn't. Ovi Suite seems a new generation Nokia Suite but I'm confused by Ovi.com and Ovi Contacts..

Right, I saw that, too, so I downloaded it. Error window says n900 is not supported. Thank you, Nokia.

n900 is not supported, in spite of what Nokia's web site says. I tried. Forget it.

As I understand it Ovi Suite is the new name for PC Suite. PC Suite is the older product. It does not depend on Ovi services though does include access to ovi services. Ovi Suite will replace PC suite in the future

Just to confirm, which region of the world are you in, maybe some regional clagg in the system.

I just posted a long blog article about My First 24-hours With the Nokia N900. Excerpt re: PIM Syncing:

I explored the following two PIM-sync scenarios:
  1. Direct device-to-device syncing via Outlook and the Nokia PC Suite software: The software installed and ran just fine on my Lenovo T43p laptop running Windows7. Pairing the N900 with my laptop via Bluetooth took several tries, and required an updated driver from the Bluetooth component manufactureer. But once it was setup, I could sync Calendar, Contacts, and Notes between both devices using either the Nokia PC Suite software or Windows7’s built in Sync feature. I was also able to sync via the N900’s sync/charging USB cable. One detail I noticed however, is that when creating a new appointment in the N900’s built-in calendar I couldn’t find an option to invite others to it (a basic feature in Outlook/Exchange). I was able to sync 1200+ contacts to the device in about 15 minutes, and 200+ appointments in another 10 minutes.
  2. Over-The-Air syncing via Nuevasync to my Google Calendar/Contacts: As a long time Windows Mobile user without my own Exchange Server, I’ve relied steadily on Nuevasync, a free service that provides synchronizing of Calendar/Contacts info via Exchange ActiveSync to your Google account. I configured my N900 to NuevaSync’s service but couldn’t get it working past the initial connection stage before it threw an error. NuevaSync appears to be seeking testers with N900’s in order to fix this. I’ve registered my interest in helping them out, and others might wish to do so in order to speed progress towards a workable solution. Also, I have to give a shout-out to OggSync’s product, which is how I automate syncing of my Outlook data to Google in the first place.

No Tasks? Notes? Do you mean PIM standalone notes or Calendar notes.

I have been syncing my n900 on my vista PC for about 2 weeks now. I am treading gently, and only syncing contacts.

On my first sync all contacts were sent successfully from the PC- but I noticed "work fax" numbers did not land on the n900. It showed an error msg about not supporting this field. It is a bummer, I will have to call people for their fax numbers every time I am away from my PC.

It does sync both ways. But something strange happened on my last sync - for some unknown reason it pushed (changed) about 35 addresses to my PC. Now these addresses in outlook have a funny format (zip code appears before city name). This is the format addresses show in the n900 - although the standard format in the US is - City, State ZIP. For some reason it decided to pick 35 contacts out of random and change the format on the PC side - i did not make any changes to the addresses on the n900, they were in the same condition as they arrived from the PC on my first sync. (I did setup the n900 for the US region on first power up) I find this very annoying , it has to be a bug but I do not understand why only 35 out of over 700 contacts were affected.

I am afraid to go to the PC and correct these formats - in case the phone tries to correct me again!!

PC suite is indeed a frustrating delivery for a very important app. Nokia needs to learn from Apple in this area. Actually I find the iphone to be on a whole different level when it comes to interfacing with the user, I picked the n900 for its leapfrog in core architecture and its open nature. I have a feeling I will end up learning a lot more about the innards of this phone than I want to, over the next few months.

Oh well...
