I mean, I can't see any N900 application having any less utility for a woman as it would a man.
I suppose that means we'd just need 2 versions of the digital onscreen ruler- one for men, the other for women. The women's version would be accurate and precise, the men's of course would be highly exaggerated.

Yes I know, some will claim they need 3 or more N900s for proper measurement.

If anyone does try to write this, I would suggest doing some research into various vital signs that could be tracked.
That's what I was hinting at. Some of the indicators for that are very personal (and even a little icky). It's not a project for the faint-hearted male. But I'd be willing to collaborate if people felt it worth it. This isn't for me - I'm approaching past all that now, and sensitive enough to the indicators not to need an app.

Something to keep note of which books I've loaned to whom would be dead handy. I often go to look for something and find I've lent it,

A 'self-esteem' app to give you positive affirmations? You may have something there: There's a great market out there now for computerised CBT.
(And no, my bum does not look bigger with an n900)

If women had an accurate measuring tool instead of having to take men's word for how long 6 inches is, we might be able to parallel park!!

Are you guys/gals serious about the mirror thing ? I mean, if you don't want some fancy UI for it, just an icon that says 'Mirror, Mirror' and launches, well, a mirror application, that's about 10 minutes of work + the time needed to promote it from devel to testing and extras. While I'm not a primary mirror user (would scare myself every time ) if you need that sort of stuff, I can hack it up.

I already posted in 'widgets request' about this. Yes, I think it could be a small, resource light, nifty little app. The sort of thing Joanne Public would have on her iphone.

Most of us might not make a huge use of it, but if you look at the apps in the maemo store right now, it's more useful than some of them.

I don't have an n900 yet, but I'd be up for testing this one, too. Waste your 10 minutes. (It doesn't need to 'say' anything: simple one-click button on the screen for 'mirror'.)

Okay, you convinced me, just realized there is one tiny catch. Orientation. I have not fiddled with orientation changing yet, so the 10 minute version will have fixed orientation. So, would you say it makes more sense to have a landscape mirror or a portrait mirror ?

My instinct is to say portrait - though I could be wrong. I'm not the average girlie.

Though why does it matter? If I'm using the front camera, put the image on the screen upright to maximise screen space, and if I want it sidewise, I can turn the device in my hand, can't I? Same as I would with a pocket mirror.

Heh, no. That' why a mirror is magical - it always flips left and right (from your viewpoint). If you turn the device, left and right become top and bottom so the image is wrong (upside down) - that's why you would need to compensate in software. Ok, so portrait. Not a biggie if it needs to be changed later.

Ok - I'm being dumb! Doesn't the camera also know which way up I'm holding it? If I use my camera I can flip between a portrait or landscape shot just by turning the camera in my hand.

I can't speak for the N900 (I should put that in my sig -_-)

With the N810, it's the strangest thing.
