Yaaaaaaaaa I've had my phone since the start of december havent had to flash it yet. I've installed a few apps from testing and dev and have even messed with a few of the system files to make m y phone behave like i want. I think as long as you know what your doing and dont just install any random app (see recent news story where an android app stole user data http://it-chuiko.com/mobile/2060-app...eals-data.html ). I can understand having to reflash once maybe twice a year but multiple times in 2 weeks? wtf are you doing to your phone??? sudo rm /* ???

Had it since the beginning of December and almost flashed it once ('cos something from extras-devel went a bit awry) but managed to fix it myself in the end. So, no.

I didn't need to flash mine. The battery life issue resolved itself after my second week of semi heavy use.

Never flash mine since I got it late december. I like adding new apps as well, and I usually run them in xTerm instead. So I can find out why applications are "stuck" on the stupid screen and try to fix it...

I've only had to reflash mine after installing a MyMenu update from Qole's repository. But that's not normal operating behavior anyway, it was one of those "continue at your own risk" things.

Never flashed, late November. Don't plan on it, unless upgrading firmware. Flashing a device is reinstalling an OS. Formatting is admitting defeat.

For the Emperor!

Can we all post the working & in use apps by all of us from etra devel, so that myself and other can downld & use them wihtout corrupting our memory cards. What do you think??

I would stay out of "Extra-Devel" at least until the major update expected by some to be around 01-18-2010.

I'm a pretty heavy user and have only required "Maemo Extras-Devel" for 2 programs in assisting with the development of dependant apps.
Both have now been either promoted to "maemo.org" or the "testing" repositories.

maemo-geolocation v1.1.3-1 can now be found on the downloads site >> http://maemo.org/downloads/product/M...o-geolocation/

and,

FM Boost which can now be found in "Maemo Extras-Testing"

Regardless of what you have heard, there is nothing in "Maemo Extras-Devel" that will enhance your user experience and a lot that will degrade performance if installed.

"Maemo Extras-Devel" is the easiest place for an independent developer to upload apps into. As a result, some things are there to assist only one person or a small group of users with a particular problem. Apps found there are not usually the solution, rather just steps the developer is taking to find the solution.

So... Unless directed to "Maemo Extra-Devel" by a developer in private conversation, it is best to leave those apps be until they are at least promoted to "Maemo Extras-Testing".

BTW, even when directed there weigh the possible outcomes seriously. Some of these guys (and gals) you may receive direction from are not the best communicators and at times assume you know as much as they do (the Sheldon syndrome ).

I recently trashed my device because I edited a system file incorrectly. I followed each posted instruction diligently.

1. Do this.
2. Now do this.
3. Now edit file "X" found in "Y".
(then sometimes later)
... oh yeah, be sure to use text editor "Z" because others may cause problems.
It was like getting directions from a passenger in your car like:

It's OK to pull out now.

...after this 10 ton truck passes.

A re-flash was required (see sticky). It was not too difficult but like a Dental appointment, something I do not look forward to.

I'll even repeat this again here:

Regardless of what you have heard, there is nothing in "Maemo Extras-Devel" that will enhance your user experience and a lot that will degrade performance if installed.
