I've downloaded a playlist.m3u8 from the TV Catchup iplayer page.
However if I run that against hls-player I get the following error
Code:
hls-player /tmp/playlist.m3u8
ERROR:root:http:///tmp/playlist.m3u8

Which suggests to me that the TV Catchup site is blocking my request. (I was still logged into the TV Catchup site via my browser)
So if I cant get TV catchup to work on a full Linux distro then I've probably got no chance of running it on an N900.
Ah just realised I was missing the main subject of this thread its about hls-player and not TV Catchup. I will have a try at getting hls-player working on my N900.
If you just want the BBC the the normal iPlayer seems to work reasonably well but if bandwidth is problem the 3rd message in this link http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=46923 gives links to the mobile versions of the live BBC streams.
It plays both the test streams perfectly
hls-player http://devimages.apple.com/iphone/sa...bipbopall.m3u8
hls-player http://iphonelive.rtve.es/stream1.m3u8 -r http://m.rtve.es/live/
Things dont seem so good for TV Catchup though
You cant use
hls-player http://84.234.23.231:1935/iphone/iphone_bbcone.sdp
As hls-player requires an .m3u8 file
