Not working correctly for me here.

When i click the widget I get the :
Shutter: IRsend took 0 seconds (CANON RC1/RC5:S)

but my Canon 40D does not respond.

I think lirc is ok, as I have the Raemote apple remote widget working fine.

Any ideas ?

Thanks,
Joe.

You probably need to set your camera to IR Shutter mode.

By the way, I just tried it with my Pentax ist*Ds and it worked perfect. Thanks a lot!

DOH!!!!!

on reading up further on it.... the issue here is the camera.

The 40D and higher end canons don't use infrared for remotes.
They use a different stupid wireless technology

I cannot seem to get this to work with my Canon 450D-

Just install QTIrreco on your N900
Unfortunately QTIrecco fails to install, saying it requires lib packages which are not yet available. Perhaps this is my error but it means I cannot find a suitable remote code for the 450D.

Please could I therefore request a code for 450D as this is potentially for me a very useful application.

Would be good to emulate the two second delay function I have on my current Canon remote as well if possible?

Many thanks for your work!

Works on a 400D for me but couple of things... one, the range is tiny..so make sure you are close to the camera. Second thing was that I had to put the camera in timer more for it to work. Not sure if that is the case with your camera as well.

Hi, I re-tried at only an inch or two away with the self timer/ remote control setting and still no success - I also get the message IRSend took 0 seconds which I am assuming is a normal message?

Yes, this comes if all went ok.
(I might need to improve these messages in another release :-)

Whoever has problems with Canon cams and is using the version from Extras: please try the newer release in Extras-Devel or -Test, there might be an improvement.

My feeling has always been that Canon is the Microsoft equivalent in the DSLR market. They give most people what they want but break compatibility and cut corners where they can get away with it. Nikon's attempts to encrypt the white balance data makes me think of even more draconian control minded companies like Apple. And Pentax, with its use of DNG right out of the camera, and its fully backwards compliant cameras (compatible with lenses going back to the screw mounted era) makes me think of them as the Linux equivalent, at least in spirit.

I stumbled on this by accident. This is a neat toy! Although it doesn't quite work out-of-the-box for me.

To get rid of the 'error 1' failure message, I had to modify shutter.py to call the irsend command with sudo. This is a fresh install of shutter + lirc, and I even followed the reboots the software suggested.

Help! Shutter needs your testing love. It's stuck in extras-testing since weeks. Go and give it a thumbs up if it works for you.
