No, the staff in charge of the auto-builder saw that PR1.2 SDK had been released, discussed it with the community developers and - since developers have been asking for pre-release SDKs for years, and wanted to use PR1.2 features - upgraded the autobuilder.

You need to update your device to PR1.2 if you want to install new Extras applications. (From "fremantle-1.2" repository.)
Well, that's a bit unclear. Extras is unaffected - there is a fremantle and a fremantle-1.2 branch. So, any application in Extras is unaffected, however it won't be further updated (at the moment).

However, Extras-devel is now being seeded from apps being compiled against the PR1.2 SDK. Given that the gap between PR1.2 SDK and PR1.2 being released is increasing - and this is a problem we'll face in future (and have faced before) - it's worth trying to improve the situation:

P.S. Yes. I do know that PR1.2 is not released yet to the people. Curious isn't it?
Curious how?

So this means that I cannot:
- update (currently 8 of) my application
- install a lot of interesting applications
only because the devs are publishing in a future app status.
and nobody can tell how long we have to remain in this deep-freeze!
can't you hear the other dev groups laughing about this invalidism for which obviousely nobody feels responsible.

hey come on:
why isn't it possible to put the future state apps into a seperate repository (which we can disable meanwhile) or at least offer second versions of the apps which can be installed and used for updates in the current firmware?

Basically, the answer is "no".

OK - this seems to be quick and professional solution, isn't it?
Lets all meanwhile put the N900 beside and go for an iBone?

They cannot multitask properly but have a crazy lot of apps.
We can multitask brilliantly but have bravely disabled the few new apps to apply.
LOL

Dear Devs,
Please, please, please, do not publish updated app versions now!

If you do, your apps are de facto dead for the next weeks/months, because:
  • Nobody can install your apps since the new firmware and the linked packages are not available.
  • Nobody can update any of your new software apps.
  • Nobody can reinstall your software apps after a phone reset.
  • Your software will cause error messages and worries in the user's device and this is no good PR anyway.
So please do a favor to the whole community and wait until this problem disappears somehow...
This is my personal opinion.

Thanx, Kyros

Or you may DO update the apps to encourage sooner resolution.

Dear Users, please, please, please, do not abuse extras-devel!

As soon as you disable extras-devel you'll find a nice set of well-tested applications that will for sure install in your pre-1.2 device.

Not that it matters that much now that the problem is fixed for non-Qt apps at least.

At least there is one (your) hint which is trying to help.

Thanx, Kyros

And I lose half the apps I've come to use to make up for Nokias shortcomings. At least the list of un-installable apps is shorter now, 1 of which is not QT related.

Shame it took over three weeks to resolve. Too bad someone from Nokia didn't give XFade a heads up and warn him it was going to be a while until PR1.2 was going to be released Perhhaps he would have postponed the upgrade to the autobuilder and we could have avoided a lot of problems.
