The main problem with beta testing is that most beta testers are well versed in computers and testing, but when a software version hits real users, an entirely different dynamic takes over -- then you find out what happens when naive users try to do what you thought was easy and foolproof. As the funny cliche goes, anyone who thinks something is foolproof just doesn't have enough respect for the ingenuity of fools.
If the leaked version would have been the version real beta testers got then sure I would agree anyone who released a version that was leaked on interet I feel should just get screwed if their phone doesn't update not Nokia's Fault.

I have installed so many beta copies of stuff over the years that I don't pay much attention to warnings. I think probably thousands. I have wrecked my setup a few times, had to start over from scratch, but big deal! This particular outlaw update I've avoided so far, mainly because I'm expecting the real version to arrive soon.
This wasn't a beta, it was a leak. A leak with an unknown origin and i think that is enough to warrant skepticism.

Sure, some people who can afford to take the risk but there are a bunch that can. There's a schit ton of people whining about devel apps bricking their phones. It is irresponsible to encourage people to flash their phone without making them aware of the risks.

Texrat spent the whole night telling folks to be cautious but people just kept jumping in blindly.

Time and time again, so many poors come on this forum and beeech about how much money they spent on their n900 and how it can't send MMS. If you spent so much money on it then it is foolish to upgrade with unknown firmware

While yes, they could look at some bugs people are reporting and compare it to the official builds; what they don't need to care nor worry about is upgrading the "public" from versions they didn't give them.

Nokia probably released several RC's to their beta testers, never bothering to get the NSU and stuff working for each of those versions until they got to a certain point in the testing cycle to actually warrant that work. There is no reason at all for Nokia to try and now go back and make sure the NSU updating is going to work for people who chose to beta test. Likely, their beta testers had to "flash" their devices.. so can the public if that's what they want to be.

I take it more as his mouth is constantly open and moving that he never has time to really breath through the nose..
